Conscience Fast Heart Hold Live Maintain Part Reproach Reproacheth Righteousness SafeJob 27
1. Job protests his sincerity8. The hypocrite is without hope
11. The blessings which the wicked have are turned into curses
I will cling to my righteousness and never let go.
Job's declaration of clinging to his righteousness reflects his steadfast commitment to integrity despite his suffering. In the context of the book, Job is responding to his friends who insist that his suffering must be due to some hidden sin. This phrase underscores Job's belief in his innocence and his refusal to falsely confess to sins he did not commit. The concept of righteousness in the Old Testament often relates to living in accordance with God's laws and maintaining moral integrity. Job's determination can be compared to the perseverance of the prophets, such as Daniel, who remained faithful despite trials. This phrase also foreshadows the New Testament teaching of holding fast to one's faith, as seen in Hebrews 10:23, which encourages believers to hold unswervingly to the hope they profess.
As long as I live, my conscience will not accuse me.
Job's assertion about his conscience highlights the importance of inner moral conviction. In the ancient Near Eastern context, conscience was understood as an internal witness to one's actions and thoughts. Job's confidence in his clear conscience is significant, as it suggests a deep personal integrity and a life lived in alignment with God's standards. This mirrors the New Testament emphasis on a clear conscience before God, as seen in Acts 24:16, where Paul speaks of striving to maintain a clear conscience before God and man. Job's statement also points to the future Christian understanding of the Holy Spirit's role in guiding and convicting believers, as seen in John 16:8. The idea of a conscience that does not accuse aligns with the peace and assurance found in a life committed to God's righteousness.

Top 10 Lessons from Job 27How does Job 27:7–10 reconcile with observable reality where the wicked sometimes prosper rather than face immediate punishment? (Jeremiah 17:9) If the heart is so deceitful, why would a just God hold humans accountable for following their inherent nature? If Job's firm claim of innocence in Job 27:5-6 is correct, how do we reconcile this with Biblical teachings on universal human sin (e.g., Romans 3:23)?What is The Satanic Temple's purpose and mission?
(6) My heart shall not reproach me.--Or, doth not reproach me for any of my days.
Verse 6. - My righteousness I held fast, and will not let it go. Not only will Job never cease to maintain his integrity in the past, but he will hold fast to the same course of blameless life in the future. He will not "curse God, and die." Resolutely he will maintain his faith in God, and his dependence on him. "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him." My heart shall not reproach me so long as I live. This is probably the true meaning, though some suggest "My heart doth not reproach me for any of my days" Job determines to "have always a conscience void of offence, both toward God and toward man" (Acts 24:16; comp. Acts 23:1; 1 Corinthians 4:4; 2 Timothy 1:3; 1 John 3:21). Parallel Commentaries ...
