Song of the day – 514: Grimes
I don’t have the slightest problem with Europop or K-Pop or ‘Barbie Girl’ or hipster shit.

Tunabunny in the UK, part one
Here’s the thing about all the exhaustion and struggle, the sacrifice that goes into saving up money to fly over to another country. The show has to be worth it. A bad show will leave you crushed and broken nearly to the point of despair. This can be a bit nerve-wracking, but it makes you put everything you have into what you’re doing.

now that’s what I call a femme-pop playlist
Discovered this while searching online for music by The X-Osettes. It comes from an online radio show I did with Jon Slade for Totally Radio in Brighton.

Another One Of Those Days: Everett True’s July 2000 journal
I want a little glamour around my presence: glamour is the last thing I possess right now. I don’t know if I’ll ever recapture that mood again.

Song of the day – 162: Dolly Mixture
There’s a new Dolly Mixture box set out. Hand on heart, I’m not sure you’ll be purchasing it. It’s 20 quid, which doesn’t seem so bad for three CDs, 56 songs, a 32-page booklet and sweet Mod packaging, and it includes the Demonstration Tapes album and all the singles and B-sides of course, and it’s all […]

Back when I was a working critic, part two
I’m trying to avoid working here, so here’s another excerpt. Taken from 2001, I believe. FRIDAY AUGUST 17 2001 Clever, friendly and articulate, I notice I have no memory of the events that transpired more than three days hence. The sun beats down upon a town of ingrates and foreign students, each more desperate than […]

Song of the day – 96: Patrik Fitzgerald
To celebrate the fact my formative influence Patrik Fitzgerald has befriended me on Facebook, and was even nice enough to “like” a recent Thin Kids video, I figured it’s long overdue that I pay tribute to him here. This particular song I’m posting had a major effect on me when I first heard it back […]
