Buzz

A buzz was a sound made by insects and some forms of technology.

In 2267, prior to identifying the source, Spock described the sound that the flying parasites of Deneva made as "a peculiar buzzing sound". (TOS: "Operation -- Annihilate!")

In 2365, Data imitated/was about to imitate the buzzing sound made by a glob fly before being interrupted. (TNG: "The Outrageous Okona")

In 2373, Quark disputed Odo's suggestion that a buzzing noise they heard was a defective anodyne circuit, as those usually hissed. (DS9: "The Ascent")

In 2374, Vic Fontaine jokingly encouraged his audience to "Keep clapping. There's a fly buzzing the room and one of you is bound to nail him." (DS9: "His Way")
