Milling
Milling was the process of removing material from the surface of a piece of wood or metal to shape it.
In 2370, the blacksmith Skoran was of the opinion that radioactive material left over from a Federation deep space probe that crashed on Barkon IV had been milled. (TNG: "Thine Own Self")
In 2373, due to plentiful wood, Chakotay considered expanding the living space for the modular shelter that he and Kathryn Janeway were living in on "New Earth". When Janeway inquired how he planned on milling it into lumber, he thought he could do a certain amount with a phaser, but was actually considering using logs to make a log cabin. (VOY: "Resolutions")
