رَبَطَ • (rabaṭa) I (non-past يَرْبُطُ (yarbuṭu), verbal noun رَبْط (rabṭ))

1. to tie up, to bind

   رَبَطَ الرَّجُلُ حِذَاءَهُ بِإحكَامِ. ― The man tied his shoes tightly.

2. to fasten, to attach
3. (Quran) to strengthen (used with the word for "heart" قَلْب (qalb))

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 18:14:

     وَرَبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ إِذْ قَامُوا فَقَالُوا رَبُّنَا رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

     warabaṭnā ʕalā qulūbihim ʔiḏ qāmū faqālū rabbunā rabbu s-samāwāti wālʔarḍi

     And We strengthened their hearts when they stood up and declared, “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth.

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 28:10:

     لَوْلَا أَن رَّبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قَلْبِهَا لِتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

     lawlā ʔan rrabaṭnā ʕalā qalbihā litakūna mina l-muʔminīna

     had We not reassured her heart in order for her to have faith ˹in Allah’s promise˺.
