From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

From Proto-Finnic *olut, borrowed from Proto-Norse [script needed] (*oluþ-) (compare Swedish öl),[1] or alternatively and less likely either from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (compare Latvian alus (beer, ale)) or from earlier Proto-Germanic *alu (stem *aluþ-). Possibly akin to kalja, if it is an early borrowing from an Indo-European language.
