From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

From Proto-Finnic *pac'as, possibly borrowed from Proto-Germanic *bandstaz. Cognate to Ingrian patsas (pylon, bee nest), Karelian pačaš (a supporting vertical piece of wood, pylon), Ludian patšas (post, pylon), Estonian patsas (a column supporting an outer corner of an oven; (dialectal) backside of a wood-burning stove), Veps pacaz (post, pylon). Possibly related to Northern Sami bázzi (grave monument, pylon, a heavy object difficult to move, support) and Inari Sami pääcis (statue, pylon).[1]
