Property Tax Reform: What’s Going on in the Room Where it Happens?
The Indiana General Assembly is debating property tax reform. Senate Bill 1 is a focus of the debate. The original bill introduced in January included the new governor’s campaign promises for property tax relief. It had a rollback of homeowner taxes to 2022 levels, an increase in homeowner deductions and a limit on annual tax increases of 2 percent for homeowners in certain categories, and 3 percent for all other property owners.
Indiana Forage Council will host annual meeting in Greensburg
The annual meeting for the Indiana Forage Council (IFC) will take place Thursday, March 6, at the Branch Gathering Place + Coffee House in Greensburg. The meeting will run from 4-8:30 p.m. and includes IFC updates, dinner, an awards ceremony, and a viewing and discussion of “Roots So Deep,” a documentary series about cattle farmers, scientists and sustainable grazing.
2025 AgrAbility National Training Workshop travels to New Mexico

Property Taxes on Farmland May Be Reformed
Property taxes on farmland went up a lot in 2023 and 2024. They’ll be going up a lot in 2025 too. The reason is the rise in the base rate of farmland. The reason that’s been rising is the pandemic. Tax bills on farmland increased 11 percent in 2023, 27 percent in 2024, and will probably increase about 20 percent in 2025. The property tax is a tax on the value of property, and the value of farmland has been increasing. According to a survey by the Purdue Department of Agricultural Economics, the average selling price of an acre of average-yield land rose from about $8,100 in 2021 to $11,600 in 2024.
Indiana Small Farm Conference will feature speakers, trade show for small and diversified farmers
The 2025 Indiana Small Farm Conference will take place at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds on March 4-5. The conference, hosted by Purdue Extension, serves as an annual educational and farmer-to-farmer networking event for the Indiana small and diversified farm community.
Camp Counselors Demonstrate Leadership and Teamwork Across Differences
Indiana 4-H delivered 14 Camp Counselor Training programs addressing social and emotional development, leading a team and teamwork (communication, interpersonal, and diversity). Six programs were in counties and eight were in collaborative regions/areas.
