The papers consist of a typescript draft, with minor editorial revisions and corrections, of Masters' biography of Chicago attorney Levy Mayer (1858-1922). The book, Levy Mayer and the New Industrial Era (New Haven, 1927), was Masters' first full-length biography. Mayer's widow, Rachel, copyrighted the book and published it in a limited edition of 1,500 copies wrote the biography in consideration of a significant payment from the Mayer family and as a gesture of respect to Abraham Mayer, Levy Mayer's brother.
