Clash!

“In a valley amidst the Marhaut Range, Ike and company are reunited with King Caineghis of Gallia. King Tibarn of Phoenicis also arrives, and brings with him a disturbing tale... His words serve notice: There is no time to waste. The final showdown with Ashnard is coming. Between the forces King Caineghis grants them before returning home and the soldiers King Tibarn brings, the Crimean army possesses three times the fighting power that it did when it left Begnion. Even so, the Daein forces encamped in the capital are strong, rested, and comparable in number. In addition, the road to the final confrontation is blocked by two formidable obstacles-- Fort Pinell and Nados Castle. How these two tests are faced will mightily affect the course of the war.”
—Opening Narration

Clash! is Chapter 26 of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and it is the chapter that allows the player to bring out the most units in this game (19). It is also the first appearance of Elincia in battle. This is the siege of Fort Pinell and the place where Bertram is defeated.

Story[]

At Crimea Castle, Ashnard learns that Crimea and Gallia have allied, and their combined forces are growing stronger. He orders his army to split into two battalions, sending one to confront the Crimeans under Bertram’s command. The Black Knight expresses concern over Ashnard’s orders but agrees. They also discuss the fate of Ena, whom Ashnard has lost interest in, leaving her fate to the Black Knight.

In Crimea's camp, Ike and his army strategize on how to take Fort Pinell and Nados Castle, which are held by Daein forces. Soren suggests attacking one base with a smaller force while the main army assaults the other. Tibarn volunteers to lead the smaller force against Nados Castle. The group plans to strike quickly, hoping to take advantage of Daein’s divided attention. Princess Elincia arrives, dressed in armor and riding a pegasus, intending to join the battle. Despite some objections, she explains her desire to fight and help by healing wounded soldiers. Ike reluctantly agrees, and her retainers, Geoffrey and Lucia, vow to protect her.

Meanwhile, at the battlefield, Bertram leads the Daein forces, and Titania informs Ike that their numbers are far greater than anticipated. Despite the overwhelming odds, Ike resolves that retreat is not an option, and they must press forward to win. They manage to successfully seize the fort and a Crimean soldier reports to Ike that enemy troops are retreating. However, Ike decides not to pursue them, opting instead to let his men rest inside the fort after a long battle.

Meanwhile, Ashnard reacts to Crimea's victory with laughter and sends reinforcements to Nados Castle, placing General Hafedd in charge to engage Crimea's forces. When Bryce, a knight, questions Ashnard's strategy of dividing his troops and potentially weakening the defense of the capital, Ashnard reveals his true intentions. He expresses a twisted desire to see how far Crimea can go in defeating Daein, suggesting that he wants to see the Crimean army reach him in battle. Ashnard finds excitement in the unpredictability of the war and is eager to face Crimea in combat, seeing their victories as an opportunity to challenge himself.

Overview[]

As Soren says at the beginning of the battle, the Daein army is twice as large as your own army. Luckily for you, the Daein army has grouped most of its units together, i.e. Wyvern Lords, Paladins, Swordmasters, Generals, even Feral Ones in different groups. Reinforcements will appear in several waves: the Wyvern Lords from the northeast at the end of turn 3, then three Sages with either A-level magic or long-ranged magic and so on.

Once the path is clear, go out and attack Bertram with magic-users because he will be using the Runesword. However be careful of his spear because it does not do magic damage and your magic users will die easily.

Bonus experience is earned if the chapter is completed in 13 turns.
