Komodo Airport (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Komodo) (IATA: LBJ, ICAO: WATO) is an airport near the town of Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores in the East Nusa Tenggara province in Indonesia. The airport's name comes from Labuan Bajo's status as a departure point for tours to the nearby Komodo National Park, home of the Komodo dragon.

It was formerly known as Mutiara II Airport, not to be confused with Mutiara Airport located near the city of Palu in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province. On September 2013 the first Boeing 737-800 landed and took off successfully.

Terminal Facilities

On 27 December 2015, President Joko Widodo inaugurated new terminal of Komodo Airport.

The new terminal will be able to improve passenger services from the previous 150 thousand passengers per year to 1.5 million passengers per year are expected to increase the number of tourists coming to the island of Flores and its surroundings. Cafe and shops are available at the terminal. The Airport featuring with all the basic amenities for the convenience of passengers.

There are some car parking lots and taxi stand outside the terminal.

The Airport is managed and controlled by UPT Ditjen Hubud, an agency under Ministry of Transportation, Indonesia.

Public Transportation

Bus: No airport bus are serving from Komodo Airport.

Private cars and taxi: Various private cars and taxi services are provided by numerous individual and service providers outside the arrival hall. Bargain for the price is possible.

Technical Specification

The Airport is at an elevation of 67 feet (20 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 17/35 with an asphalt surface measuring 1,650 by 30 metres (5,413 ft × 98 ft).

In addition, the foundation also extended runway with a length of 2,250 meters and a width of 45 meters which can accommodate aircraft jet medium class Airbus A320, Boeing 737-800, and Boeing 737-900. Previously only able to accommodate aircraft propeller class ATR 72-600.
