Janet McBride is a Freelance TV Producer, Director and Writer, and has been working in Television for over 20 years. She is well known for a number of popular clip and blooper shows. Janet has also worked with some of Britain’s most innovative comedians and comedy writers and in her time has been an Archive Film Consultant, Head of Production, Series Producer, Writer, and Executive Producer.

Graduating from Christ Church College, Canterbury with a degree in Radio, Film and Television, Janet then went on to Loughborough University gaining a Master of Arts Degree in Information Studies before joining the BBC Film Archive in 1986. A career in production soon followed, beginning with the BBC flagship current affairs programme Newsnight and youth current affairs programme Reportage.

By 1990 Janet had joined the BBC Entertainment Department before embarking on a freelance career working with some of Britain’s top comedy talent including Rory Bremner, Lenny Henry, Jo Brand, Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, Frank Skinner, David Baddiel, Al Murray and Harry Hill.

Highlights of Janet’s career include the first series of award winning comedy panel show Shooting Stars in 1995, three series of the cult classic re-voiced archive show The Staggering Stories of Ferdinand De Bargos, the unforgettable Baddiel and Skinner’s Fantasy Football League during Euro 1996 and Fantasy World Cup Live during the 1998 World Cup.

After producing Fantasy World Cup Live in 1998, Janet became Head of Production of leading Independent Production Company, Avalon Television, establishing the Al Murray sit-com Time Gentlemen Please for Sky One, Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned for ITV and Harry Hill for Channel Four.

Janet went on to become Series and Executive Producer at ITV Entertainment where she was responsible for producing, directing and writing four series of the highly successful Kirsty’s Home Videos, three series of TV’s Naughtiest Blunders, overseeing the long-running flagship blooper show It’ll Be Alright on the Night and a three hour pop culture special Now Thats Embarrassing...The 80s for FIVE.

Huge ratings for the first series of Kirsty’s Home Videos took everyone by surprise. It went on to run for four more successful series. The show was voted Best Satellite TV Programme at the 2003 annual TRIC Awards. In 2002, presenter Kirsty Gallacher won Best Satellite TV Personality for her work on the series. And in the same year at the Houston International Film Festival, Kirsty’s Home Videos won a Platinum Award for Best Entertainment Programme.

Another ratings winner, TV’s Naughtiest Blunders went from a few ad hoc specials a year to a fortnightly extravaganza of bad behavior from some of Britain’s best loved stars. Running for three series, it was a mainstay of the ITV schedules for years.

Since leaving ITV in 2007, Janet has been involved in a number of media related projects, Writing and Producing programmes such as the 10 part series Britain in the 90s for Blighty, Edit Producing daytime consmumer series Dirty Tricks of the Tradesmen for the BBC, designing websites for small businesses, and lecturing in Film & TV Production at John Ruskin College.

In addition to televison production, she also works with a number of living history groups promoting educational history events, undertakes research for local history and genealogy projects, provides military history research advice at the annual Surrey Family History Fair, moderates an online genealogy forum and contributes to the Living Military History Blog.
