June Brigman

'Brenda Starr'. 

June Brigman was born in Atlanta in 1960. She studied art at the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. She did her first comic book work for AC Comics and DC Comics in 1983-1984, but she had her breakthrough with Marvel Comics. She co-created the children's superhero team 'Power Pack' with writer Louise Simonson in 1984, and later had runs on 'Alpha Flight', 'She-Hulk', 'New Mutants', 'Strange Tales' and 'Barbie'-related titles. In the 1990s, she moved to DC Comics, where she drew the 'Supergirl' mini-series in 1994. She teamed up with Simonson again for the 'Star Wars' series 'River of Chaos' at Dark Horse Comics in 1995.

In 1995, Brigman took over the syndicated newspaper comic 'Brenda Starr, Reporter' after the retirement of Ramona Fradon. She made the strip with writer Mary Schmich for Tribune Media Services until the end of its run in 2011. She additionally drew the comic 'Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?' for National Geographic World magazine, and did art on the 'Forge' title by CrossGen Comics. Brigman provided illustrations to the Bantam Doubleday Dell book series 'Choose Your Own Adventure'. She made a graphic novel adaptation of 'Black Beauty' for Puffin Books in 2005. Brigman has worked as an instructor at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art and the Savannah College of Art and Design.

In 2016 Brigman succeeded Joe Giella as the new artist behind the soap opera series 'Mary Worth', which she still continues today.
