Japan of late is all a-flutter over Bandai's debut of its new color Wonderswan handheld console, which is set to replace the old monochrome 'Swan. One of the most notable pieces of news to come out of the handheld's exhibition is the news that Square will be supporting the color Wonderswan with three Final Fantasy games, as well as a potential connection to the Internet by way of PlayStation 2 and Square's PlayOnline online gaming site.

The adapter will connect the Wonderswan to PlayStation 2 by way of its USB ports. Subsequently, Wonderswan users will be able to download games and other content from the PlayOnline network to their handhelds. This is, of course, dependent on Square's development of PlayOnline and the future release and support of Sony's HDD network adapter, so Japanese gamers won't be able to make use of this connection until at least some time in 2001.
