Jessica Drew's Apartment (London)
This building was in London and it was rented to multiple tenants for low prices, partly because it was dilapidated to the point of having a dirty, damaged entrance and a garbage can next to the interior stairs. Animals such as cats were known to enter the building at will. Ollie, an old man, served as the building's caretaker and took care of the renting, as well as cleaning and other duties as much as his resources allowed him to.[1]
Young Jessica Drew, who had been raised in strange circumstances, was living in London at that time but had scarce money and no job, as many people, especially women, reacted negatively to the pheromones she broadcast, leading to her not finding a job. Ollie agreed to rent her a room because, looking into her eyes, he saw she was in deep pain partly because of how people rejected her. Ollie rented her a one-room flat, even if Ollie's acquaintance Mrs. McGruder complained to him due to Drew giving her the chills.[1]
After meeting aged magician Magnus, who told Drew she should go to the United States, Drew returned to her home and pondered about that. She found a cat in her outer cornice and let it in, then finally decided to talk to Magnus again to obtain more information. Leaving to meet Magnus, she then resolved to move to the US with him.[2]
- Jessica Drew[1] (formerly)[2]
- In Spider-Woman #1, Mrs. McGruder and Ollie say that Jessica had rented only one room, although the narrator describes her lodging as a flat (which is typically made up of several rooms). In Spider-Woman #2, her lodging is called an apartment (which is the American word for British "flat").
- Although the apartment is supposed to be modest, it has a great view of the River Thames and the Big Ben, seen from above, suggesting that it is either a residential building over 22 stories very close to the river (or that the window may be cover by a second roller blind).[1] If the building is indeed so tall, then the cat reaching Drew's window's outer cornice had achieved quite a feat![2]
