Jake Gallows has traveled back in time the present-day Manhattan to kill the city's heroes because men dressed like heroes killed his family. He is being guided in his mission to "cure the cancer called heroes" that plagues his world by a voice that he believes is that of his god, Lord Thor. Gallows soon encounters Spider-Man web-swinging over Manhattan and shoots him with an energy beam that seemingly disintegrates him. However, while Gallows believes that he has killed Spider-Man, the energy beam actually transports Spider-Man to Manhattan in the year 2099. Once there, Spider-Man is mistaken for a "costumer" and captured by Punishers who send him to Synthia Incorporated where the unmasked Peter Parker is drugged by doctors and put in a straitjacket in a padded cell.
Elsewhere, in the Alchemax Industries building, Tyler Stone is secretly using the Chronosphere to observe Gallows and, as the voice that Gallows believes to be Thor, guide him in rewriting history for some unknown purpose. The apparent elimination of Spider-Man causes a historical alteration to occur in 2099, but being in the Chronosphere protects Stone from being affected by the alterations. Unaware of what Stone is actually doing, Dr. George O'Hara reminds him that it's dangerous to use the system before it's properly calibrated, but Stone dismisses his concerns.
Meanwhile, teenager Miguel O'Hara meets up with four of his schoolmates, including Kron Stone, in Times Square. They then go together to Grimm Arena to watch live combat where the star attraction is a dude who can light himself on fire, the Human Torch.
At Synthia Incorporated, Shakti Haddad sneaks into its Level 96 research facility, searching for "the man who doesn't belong," but she's captured by Punishers who throw her into the padded cell with the previously captured costumer, Peter Parker. Able to hear how "loud" his mind is, Shakti realizes that she's found the person for whom she was searching and, by touching him, she is able to cause both of them to see images from his past.
At Alchemax, Lyla informs Stone that another historical alteration has taken place, meaning that Gallows has hit another one of the specified targets, but the fact that he did so while Stone was not protected within the Chronosphere concerns Lyla.
In the present, Luke Cage and Wolverine are just about to raid a Hand lair when Gallows show up and shoots Wolverine, seemingly dissolving him in front of Cage. However, as with Spider-Man, the energy beam actually transports Wolverine to the year 2099 where he runs into a group of savage Hulks rampaging through the ruins of Washington, D.C.
