Backscatter Glasses
The Backscatter Glasses are a set of glasses designed by Coulson's Team to mimic former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Akela Amador's Backscatter X-Ray Eye Implant.

Infiltrating the Todorov Building[]

Skye finishes installing Grant Ward's glasses
The technology for the Backscatter Glasses originated from the Backscatter X-Ray Eye Implant used by Akela Amador. Once Skye hijacked the feed from Amador's eye implant, she redirected the data feed into these glasses, an invention of Leo Fitz. Skye and Grant Ward followed the directions from the handler on the other end of the data stream. This led the two to Belarus, where Ward infiltrated the Todorov Building.

While following the handler's directions, Ward had to many times avoid looking at his hands or a mirror, so as to avoid raising suspicion to the handler. Once Ward reached his destination, a photograph was taken through the glasses of a series of symbols. Soon after, Ward accidentally looked in a mirror and blew his cover. Meanwhile, the explosive kill switch was being removed from Amador by Fitz and Simmons.

Later on, Ward and Fitz played a game of poker, and Fitz had enlisted Skye's help to win. She situated herself behind the men, hidden in her bunk with the glasses, so she could see Ward's cards and share the information with Fitz. However, once Skye alerted Fitz that she would see him nude if she proceeded, he folded his cards and fled the room. Ward turned around, inadvertently facing Skye, who activated the glasses to see Ward's body.[1]

Bobbi Morse was wearing a pair of Backscatter Glasses on an undercover mission with Melinda May, as the two sought Werner von Strucker. Leo Fitz, at the Playground, saw everything that Morse saw. She was able to show Fitz pictures of Strucker's fake ID's and passports so that he could find his location. Fitz sent information about Jerome Deschamps' work history to the glasses when their cover was about to be blown.[2]
Meeting Holden Radcliffe[]

Leo Fitz was wearing a pair of Backscatter Glasses as he and Jemma Simmons were in a club in Romania to find Holden Radcliffe there. Alphonso Mackenzie was in other location where he could see through the glasses that many of the people in the club had modified cybernetic implants. After Radcliffe discovered they were in fact agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., his assistant, Anon, broke the glasses.[3]
Infiltration into Area 51[]

Having time traveled to the 1950s, a Life-Model Decoy of Phil Coulson and Jemma Simmons visited the S.H.I.E.L.D. base Area 51, in hopes of stopping the Chronicom Hunters from destroying Zephyr One. Coulson wore Backscatter Glasses in order to send pictures of everyone in the base to the Zephyr, so that Deke Shaw could match their identity with facial recognition. He used them to photograph people such as Pascal Vega and Daniel Sousa.[4]
Capabilities[]
The Backscatter Glasses have x-ray capabilities, allowing the wearer to see through certain surfaces. This was used by Grant Ward during the Infiltration into Todorov Building, by Skye during Ward and Leo Fitz's power game, and by Fitz while meeting with Holden Radcliffe.
They are also capable of sending video feed and pictures to a specified location, as used by Bobbi Morse while searching for Werner von Strucker, and by a Life-Model Decoy of Phil Coulson while infiltrating Area 51.
