SCENE 1
|
Maria notices an angry Olivia throw a bag of trash on top of Oscar's trash can as she rushes off. Maria wonders why she is so upset, and Oscar proposes the way to figure it out is through "trashology": looking through her trash for clues, likening it to how one gets their palm or tea leaves read. Oscar deduces from the bag's contents that Olivia had knocked over her alarm clock and busted it, her Polaroid photographs came out overexposed, and she had burned her bread in the toaster. Maria takes the broken clock to repair in order to cheer Olivia up, while Oscar considers putting the pictures up in his mud room.

Luis invites the Count to help him and Mary out with demonstrating "next to." The Count starts by gathering Katie, Masai, and Mercy to stand with Mary; Luis points out who's next to who. The Count then continues gathering the other street members away from their activities: Mr. Macintosh from barbecuing some weenies, Olivia from her jogging, Mr. Hooper from bathing (draped in his shower curtain), a pajama-clad Willy (having been pulled from his bed), and Big Bird from his lunch. As a result, he counts “one angry mob” that begins to advance on him as we cut to...
