Mac Davis (1942-2020) was a singer and songwriter who guest starred in episode 514 of The Muppet Show. He sang several of his own hit songs in the episode, including "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me", "Poor Boy Boogie", "It's Hard to Be Humble" and "I Believe in Music".

Several songs written by Davis, including "A Little Less Conversation," were recorded by Elvis Presley. He also wrote songs for Nancy Sinatra, Kenny Rogers, and Vikki Carr, before breaking out as a recording artist in his own right in 1972. He had his own variety series The Mac Davis Show (1974-1976), while occasional acting credits included The Sting II (with Jackie Gleason and Teri Garr), The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood (replacing Waylon Jennings as the Balladeer), a Murder, She Wrote TV movie, and The Wendell Baker Story (with Kris Kristofferson).
