Olney Pancake Race | On Shrove Tuesday every year the ladies of Olney, Buckinghamshire compete in the world famous Pancake Race, an Olney tradition which dates back to 1445. The 2020 race will be held on Tuesday 25th February. The race starts at 11:55am. Children from Olney schools also take part in their own races. Since 1950 Olney has competed against the women of Liberal, Kansas, USA in an international race.

The Race in 2025 will be the 78th race of the new era since the event was re-established in 1948, and the 76th race against Liberal, Kansas, USA.
25 individual runners plus another 20 runners to participate as three and four-legged teams

This is an historic event that takes place every year in Olney, open only to the female residents of Olney who are 18 and over, and resident in the town for at least three months, or who work in Olney.
The event supposedly has been in existance for over 550 years, having first taken place after 1445. Please see the history pages for more details on how the event came into existance, and how it was resurrected after WW2.
