Charles, nordamerikan. Journalist; geb. 31. Aug. 1830 zu Erwitte in Westfalen, [* 2] kam als vorjähriger Knabe mit seinen Eltern nach Amerika, [* 3] trat 1845 in den Dienst der amerikanischen Marine und war dann seit 1853 journalistisch thätig. Von seinen Schriften sind zu erwähnen: »Man-of-war life«;
