90,000 BBY

90,000 BBY, or 90,000[1] Before the Battle of Yavin, was a year of the Galactic Standard Calendar[7] that fell within the Pre-Republic era.[2] It was said that the Galactic City on the planet Coruscant stood as a many tiered settlement as early as 90,000 BBY. Thousands of years later,[1] by the time of the Clone Wars,[8] the planet-spanning[1] settlement had grown to 5,127 levels[8] stretching kilometers from the surface.[9]

Behind the scenes[]

The 1994 novel The Courtship of Princess Leia by Dave Wolverton was the first source to establish that several of the levels of the Galactic City were more than ninety thousand years old by the time of the novel's events,[10] which are set in 8 ABY.[11] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, subsequently explicitly introduced the year 90,000 BBY in the context of the history of Coruscant's planet-wide city.[1]
