Death sticks inside a clear case
A death stick was a highly addictive illicit substance readily found in the underworld of Coruscant and other locales across the galaxy. Delivered inside luminescent sticks, they were a favorite among desperate addicts and thrill-seekers.[2] Death sticks were created from distilled and refined ixetal cilona, made from the balo mushrooms found on the planet Balosar.[3]
History[]
Death sticks were used as early[4] as 232 BBY[5] during the High Republic Era. In that year, death sticks and other intoxicants were available to the assembled ranks of the Nihil within their Great Hall as part of a celebratory feast after the attack on the Garello convoy.[4] In 230 BBY,[6] Ovarto Bitolo-Bash smoked a death stick, even though he wasn't supposed to smoke on the job.[7] Rael Averross, despite being a Jedi, sometimes used death sticks.[8]

While on the planet Coruscant ten years after the Invasion of Naboo, and attempting to track down Zam Wesell, an assassin that had targeted the Senator Padmé Amidala, the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi entered the Outlander Club in Coruscant's Uscru Entertainment District. Inside, he was approached by Elan Sel'Sabagno, who attempted to sell him death sticks. Kenobi, however, used a Jedi mind trick both to convince him that he did not want to sell him death sticks and that he wanted to go home and rethink his life.[1] The human Enric Pryde used death sticks until he joined the Galactic Empire, for which he gave up his use of the drug in order to fit his idea of what an Imperial officer should be.[9]
Behind the scenes[]
Though the death sticks are illicit substances, the Databank entry of Elan Sleazebaggano lists death sticks as a weapon.[10]
