Star Wars: Kanan

"It's incredibly exciting to be able to actually tell this story, because it's a huge story in Kanan's life—it's a significant event in his development. It's not just, 'Oh yeah, we're going to tell another story. Here's another adventure.' It's not just another adventure. It's a huge event in his life."
―Greg Weisman[8]

Star Wars: Kanan, originally titled Star Wars: Kanan - The Last Padawan, is a canon Star Wars comic series first released on April 1, 2015. It was published by Marvel Comics and centers on Kanan Jarrus, one of the protagonists of the Star Wars Rebels TV series. The two arcs, The Last Padawan and First Blood are written by Greg Weisman and penciled by Pepe Larraz.[9] The Last Padawan takes place during Order 66, while First Blood depicts Kanan's first foray into the Clone Wars. The series concluded with the publication of Kanan 12 on March 16, 2016.[3] Parts of the comic series are contradicted by the 2021 television series Star Wars: The Bad Batch.[10]

  4. The flashback story in Kanan 1-Kanan 3 takes place during and shortly after Order 66, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 19 BBY.
  5. Kanan 6 states that it had been fourteen years since Kanan Jarrus had seen Gamut Key. As Kanan last saw Gamut Key in Kanan 4, this comic must be set fourteen years prior to Kanan 6. Kanan 6 has the Ghost crew aware of Fulcrum, meaning that it must also be set after "Gathering Forces". However, as Ezra Bridger does not yet have his lightsaber, it must be set before "Path of the Jedi." "Star Wars: Galactic Atlas" places "Empire Day" (which directly precedes "Gathering Forces") and "Path of the Jedi" in 4 BBY, meaning that Kanan 6 must also take place in 4 BBY. If Kanan 6 takes place in 4 BBY, and Kanan 4 takes place fourteen years prior, it must take place in 18 BBY. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of Kanan 5 to 18 BBY.
  6. Star Wars Helmet Collection: Commander Bacara (Helmets: Commander Bacara) places the events of Kanan 10-11 months prior to the Fourth Battle of Mygeeto, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas places in 19 BBY. Kanan 7-9 take place shortly prior to Kanan 10.
  7. The opening crawl for Kanan 2 places the present day events of Star Wars: Kanan to be fifteen years after the Proclamation of the New Order, which occurred in 19 BBY according to Star Wars: Timelines. Therefore, the present day events occur in 4 BBY.
