John Osmaston was born on 21 June 1831.² He was the son of Francis Wright and Selina FitzHerbert.² He married, firstly, Emily Sophia Plumptre, daughter of Reverend Henry Western Plumptre and Eleanor Bridges, on 23 June 1853.³ He married, secondly, Florence Mary Rice, daughter of Edward Royds Rice and Elizabeth Knight, on 19 December 1861.⁴ He died on 1 November 1901 at age 70.⁴
     He was given the name of John Wright at birth.⁴ On 8 September 1876 his name was legally changed to John Osmaston by Deed Poll.³ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Derbyshire.³ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Staffordshire.³ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Derbyshire.³ He lived at Osmaston Manor, Derbyshire, England^G.⁵ He lived at Hawkhurst Court, Hawkhurst, Sussex, England^G.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Sussex.³
