Lt.-Gen. Robert Bruce was the son of John Bruce Bruce-Pryce and Sarah Austin.1 He married Rachel Frances Corbet, daughter of Richard Corbet, on 5 February 1857.2 He died in 1891.2
He gained the rank of officer in the 74th Highlanders.2 He fought in the Kaffir War between 1851 and 1853.2 He retired from the military in 1881, with the rank of Lieutenant-General.2 He gained the rank of Colonel between 1890 and 1891 in the East Yorkshire Regiment.2
