Sir Frederick Aloysius Weld was born on 9 May 1823 at Chideock Manor, Dorset, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Humphrey Weld and Hon. Christina Maria Clifford.1 He married Filumena Mary Anne Lisle March Phillipps, daughter of Ambrose Lisle March Phillipps de Lisle and Laura Maria Clifford, on 3 March 1859 at Private Chapel, Leicester, Leicestershire, EnglandG.1 He died on 20 July 1891 at age 68 at Chideock, Dorset, EnglandG, from a fever contracted on a trip to the Straits Settlements.1
     He was educated between 1832 and 1841 at Stonyhurst College, Blackburn, Lancashire, EnglandG.1 He was educated in 1841 at University of Fribourg, Fribourg, SwitzerlandG.1 He was a sheep farmer, run-holder and pastoralist between 1844 and 1855 at New ZealandG.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [New Zealand] between 1853 and 1855, for Wairau.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [New Zealand] between June 1858 and July 1861, for Wairau.1 He held the office of Minister of Native Affairs [New Zealand] between November 1860 and July 1861.1 He held the office of Premier of New Zealand between November 1864 and October 1865.1 He held the office of Governor of Western Australia between 1868 and 1874.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1875.1 He held the office of Governor of Tasmania between 1875 and 1880.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1880.1 He held the office of Governor of the Straits Settlements between 1880 and October 1887.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1885.1 He lived at Chideock, Dorset, EnglandG. He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.1
