John Wither Awdry was born on 21 October 1795 at Swindon, Wiltshire, England.2 He was baptised on 4 November 1795 at Swindon, Wiltshire, England.2 He married, firstly, Sarah Maria Awdry, daughter of Reverend Jeremiah Awdry, on 29 June 1830.3 He married, secondly, Frances Ellen Carr, daughter of Rt. Rev. Thomas Carr, on 28 July 1839.3 He died on 31 May 1878 at age 82 at Wiltshire, England.2
     He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.)4 He lived at Notton, Wiltshire, England.4 He was educated at Oriel College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He lived at Notton House, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1
