Forgotten State of Undress - TV Tropes
- ️Thu Mar 13 2025
Raven: You know you're naked, right?
Garfield: Huh? [looks down and covers his junk] Aah! I overslept! Was rushing. Forgot to put on my uniform. So I sleep in the nude. So what? Animals are naked! I am the entire animal kingdom crammed into a single magnificent specimen.
Raven: You're something crammed into something.
This trope involves a character who, due to stress, distraction, or an intense situation, forgets they're in a state of undress, be it something minor like a revealing pajamas, a Goofy Print Underwear, a Wardrobe Malfunction or complete nudity. They will often only realize their inappropriate attire due to the reactions of other characters, which can range from Eating the Eye Candy to Please Put Some Clothes On. This is usually played for humor and/or fanservice.
Some kind of Naked Freak-Out is expected once the character notices it, such as covering themselves with Hand-or-Object Underwear or simply running away from the situation to try to get decent. But if the character is a Shameless Fanservice Girl, expect them to act nonchalant about it.
Sometimes the audience itself will only find out the character is undressed alongside them, via a Reveal Shot. Sometimes, it's part of "Not Wearing Pants" Dream.
Often overlaps with Naked People Are Funny. Can overlap with Naked First Impression (if this occurs when a character first meets), Comedic Underwear Exposure, Embarrassing Hospital Gown, Embarrassing Pyjamas, Naked People Trapped Outside, or "Not Wearing Pants" Dream. Compare Forgetful Jones, Open-Fly Gag, Pants-Free, and Underdressed for the Occasion.

She has a Naked Freak-Out and goes back into the water to cover up, only to forget a second time:
Ahiru: Did you see?
Fakir: I didn't look. [agitated] Anyway, what'd you find out? That's the first thing you should have said!

By the sequel (to his relief), the Mane Six and Cutie Mark Crusaders have gotten used to wearing clothes when in human form. However, the other Equestrian students who attend in Harry's second year were not given this lesson, which results in two-thirds of the Hogwarts First-Year class leaving their bedrooms totally naked.
- Later, when Hermione learns that, thanks to Discord, she and the Weasleys are not human with pony animagus forms, but ponies with human animagus forms, she tests out if she can change from unicorn to human while in Equestria.
