A Multi-Animator Project (occasionally known as a Reanimation Project, or simply as animation collabs) is a type of Fan Animation (MAPs can be original but they're usually based on existing media) that follows the general formula of multiple animators animating one project. A frequent target is re-animating an episode of a show or creating an Animated Music Video.

A multi-animator reanimation by definition is a collaborative effort between animators, where one animator does a variable amount of the scene, and the next animator picks up from there in a different art style (some of which have a serious tone, while some go in the complete opposite direction). It's a simple way of showcasing talent, for better or for worse, and the result is usually a very diabolical kind of insanity.

Reanimation is a relatively new trend, which has quickly become a tradition, recognized by both fans of the work being reanimated, and interested newcomers, due to the subtle humor derived from each animator's invocation of specific art styles, and the effort it took to make.

By nature, a sub-trope of Fan Animation. Its sister trope is the Shot-for-Shot Remake. Often crosses over with the Affectionate Parody as well. Art Shift is in full effect due to many animators with their artistic styles.

Not to be confused with literal cartographic maps, and definitely not to be confused with Minor-Attracted People (the latter long being a point of frustration with MAP participants).

Anime & Manga

AKIRA has an animated collab paying homage to and parodying the iconic Bike Stop scene from the movie.
Azumanga Daioh had its intro remastered by Burdrehnar. Among the animators featured include Gooseworx, now known for The Amazing Digital Circus.
Chargeman Ken! has a reanimation of its most infamous episode, "Dynamite in the Brain", lead by cartoonist Charles Brubaker, the creator of works such as The Fuzzy Princess and Lauren Ipsum.
Kirby: Right Back at Ya! has a reanimated collab, fittingly recreating the episode "Cartoon Buffoon".
The first episode of Moomin (1990) has been reanimated as a MAP called Moominreanimated.
Two Sailor Moon episodes have been reanimated this way, as Moon Animate Make-Up! and Moon Animate Make-Up 2. Sadly, they’re only on YouTube, with no known mirror link, not even on Newgrounds.
Dragon Ball has a project that recreates the eighth episode of the anime, "The Turtle Hermit's Kamehameha" / "The Kamehameha Wave".
Sonic Rebuilt, a complete reanimation of Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie (the 1999 OVA) by the same team that made Shrek Retold.
Sonix X Reanimate, which recreates the 5th episode of Sonic X, "Cracking Knuckles".
Nichijou has its first episode reanimated with a slight pitch elevation on one scene for its YouTube variant.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Reanimate remakes the second episode, "The Devil Gamer - The Trap of Hell", from the first adaptation of the series.

Films — Animation

Perhaps one of the most known MAPs is Shrek Retold, which recreated the entirety of Shrek from the ground up (and by this we mean both recreating not only the visuals but the audio as well), in both animated and live-action mediums. Shrek 2 Retold is currently in the works.
The "Be Prepared" song from The Lion King (1994) also got the Reanimated treatment.
"All Dogs Reanimated" reanimates Don Bluth's All Dogs Go to Heaven song sequence, "You Can't Keep a Good Dog Down".
"Shiny Reanimated", hosted by Schaffrillas Productions, reanimates Tamatoa's scenes from Moana (a character Schaff is quite fond of).
- Schaffrillas also hosted "Be Our Guest", which reanimates the famous song from Beauty and the Beast (1991).
"Joshua and the Promised Land Reanimated", hosted by Saberspark, who resumes Joshua and the Promised Land in a recut showcasing the most important scenes of the film.
The Spongebob Squarepants Movie was recreated by fans from scratch under the name of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie Rehydrated as a tribute to the late Stephen Hillenburg. You can watch it on Newgrounds.
"TOY STORY REANIMATED: You Are a Toy" is a reanimated project by students at DePaul University, Reanimating the scene in Toy Story where Woody, while arguing with Buzz, tries to convince the latter that he is a toy.
- Toy Story Black Friday Reel Reanimated is a reanimated project hosted by Hector Collector where multiple animators reanimate the deleted scene that almost caused the cancellation of Toy Story.
Dial-Up Studios had managed to create a reanimated/redone version of Toy Story 2 dubbed TOY STORY 2 Redialed, with all sound redone by fans in a similar vein to Rehydrated.

There was a collaboration that several GModders redid Team Fortress 2's "Meet the Spy" trailer. It can be seen here. There's now a follow-up with "Meet the Medic".
This is a Spyro the Dragon MAP based on the Classic games and The Legend of Spyro games.
All the cutscenes for the Philips CD-i video game Hotel Mario were reanimated into a collab, as seen here.
All the cutscenes from Link: The Faces of Evil & Zelda: Wand of Gamelon have been reanimated in a single collab video here.
There is an ongoing collab for Sonic Riders, which is aiming to reanimate all of the game's cutscenes, that being the intro, CGI, and in-game cutscenes. View the trailer here.
Rhythm Heaven Reanimated features all minigames from Rhythm Heaven, including all the Endless Games, reanimated by over 140 animators.
There is an ongoing collab for Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Subspace Emissary, recreating all of the cutscenes in the game. See the trailer here.
For the 5th anniversary of the reveal of King K. Rool in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the YouTuber Schaffrillas Productions directed and released a reanimation collab of the King's trailer. You can watch it here.
In 2024, the trailers for Angry Birds and Angry Birds Space were reanimated in the same video by more than 55 fans to celebrate 15 years of the franchise.

Web Animation

The YouTube Poop 24601 Releases a Sammich On Parole made by DaThings was remade in a reanimated collab exactly 10 years after the original.
Battle for Dream Island:
- The series has an official re-animated collab of the first episode of its very first season, released to celebrate the series' ninth anniversary.
- A second one re-animates the first episode of the second season, BFDIA.
- A third one re-animates the first IDFB episode.
Open Source Objects is the first full Object Show of this trope. Unlike many examples on this list, the audio of this show is original.
An interesting case where the video wasn't animated prior — TheOdd1sOut made his "Embarrassing Times to be Recognized" in this format. Contributors include Katzun, JAMIEvstheVOID and Ivan Animated.
The creator of the famous Super Mario RPG cover "Rawest Forest" created a Multi-Animator Project of the cover's music video, seen here.
YouTube channel "Eddsworld Reanimated" does this for the pre-Legacy episodes of Eddsworld. So far, only "WTFuture" and "Spares" have gotten this treatment.
Team Fabulous 2 has its own one made here. Notably, this was created partially as a tribute to the late creator of the original, as well as for a charity dedicated to cancer research (specifically leukemia).
Super Mario Bros. Z has a reanimated project of one of the most iconic episodes of the original run, being Episode 6.
Supermarioglitchy4's Super Mario 64 Bloopers has a re-animated collab for one of its most famous episodes, "Who let the chomp out?", seen here.
The Rat Movie: Mystery of the Mayan Treasure by Jerma has a reanimation of its own, which can be seen on Jerma's secondary channel.
NiN10Doh! is an original series featuring multiple animators creating animations that spoof Nintendo games, with all of them originally being written by Chris Niosi.
ASDF Movie has its first four episodes recreated in a quick fashion made by Bradius.

“I’m Just Your Problem REANIMATED!” is a reanimation of Marceline’s song of the same name from the Adventure Time episode “What Was Missing”.
Amphibia:
Bluey Sleepytime Reanimated, which reanimates the Bluey episode "Sleepytime", was uploaded on June 8, 2024 by project leader Saberspark to his Twitter / X (here), Patreon (here), and Newgrounds (here) accounts.^note
Chowder had CHOWDER REANIMATED, which did over the "Hey, Hey It's Knishmas!" episode.
Courage the Cowardly Dog had Freaky Fred Reanimated!, which did over the "Freaky Fred" episode.
The Trope Codifier goes to the Super Mario World Reanimated Collab, which remade the quite famous "Mama Luigi" episode.
The Dover Boys was also Reanimated, making plenty of use with the short's deliberate use of Alternative Character Interpretation.
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy received one for the episode, Little Rock of Horrors.
The Simpsons: The memetic "Steamed Hams" skit from "22 Short Films About Springfield" got a reanimation collab in the form of "Steamed Hams but There's a Different Animator Every 13 Seconds."
- The Dance Sensation music video "Do the Bartman" was also reanimated.
The Bob's Burgers episode "Brunchsquatch" was animated by over 60 different animators with their unique art styles. Each animator was given a small section of the finished audio dialogue of the script and asked to animate it themselves, and the result was a giant love letter to the fans of the series.
Smiling Friends even had one of its best episodes, Desmond's Day Off, be reanimated by more than 80 animators.
Steven Universe has Gemanimate, a group that has organized three re-animations so far: one of the extended title sequence, one of the episode The Answer, and an on-going re-animation of the song Let's Only Think About Love.
A lot of animators in the industry got together and re-animated the song "Wonderful Ways to Say No" from the infamous anti-drug PSA Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue. A variety of different art styles are included.
The Woody Woodpecker episode "The Bird Who Came to Dinner" was reanimated. This was a Brazillian project, a place in which Woody Woodpecker is very popular.
The Powerpuff Girls (1998) has the PPGReAnimate Project, a reanimation of the episode "Twisted Sister". It also honors the show's 20th anniversary.
Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) has its seventh episode, Sonic Racer be faithfully recreated as Sonic The Hedgehog ReJuiced.

The Ren & Stimpy Show had Ren and Stimpy Reanimated! (Don't whizz on the electric fence), which did over the "Sven Hoek" episode.
The Legend of Zelda ReAnimated Series does this with various scenes from The Legend of Zelda (1989) cartoon.
Felix the Cat's first cartoon, Feline Follies, was reanimated in "The Felix the Cat Centennial Feline Follies Reanimated Experience" to celebrate both the short and Felix's 100th birthday.
Steamboat Willie Redux is one of the few examples of such a project endorsed by the company that owns the original material.
Rayman: The Animated Series had its second episode, "No Parking", reanimated in The Rayman TV Reanimated Collab.
Another Looney Tunes short, Duck Amuck gets the reanimated treatement, with a Twist Ending.
An episode of Timon & Pumbaa, "Monster Massachusetts", will have one as well. An announcement was made on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the episode's first airing, on YouTube.
The first episode of The Cuphead Show! was reanimated a week after the show aired on Netflix by using an animatic from a film festival that was shown in 2020. You can watch it here

The pilot of Popeye the Sailor (TV Series), Barbecue for Two, was reanimated in June 2023, hosted by Dirk Erik Schulz. You can watch it here

For My Life as a Teenage Robot, the first episode "It Came From Next Door" was re-animated for the show's 20th anniversary, with the voice work and music also being redubbed by fans. You can watch it here.
Wordgirl: REWIRED is a sequel to WordGirl with its art created by multiple fan animators.
Alchemy Paint Studios manages to reanimate Gravity Falls' first episode after 3 years of work.
