Sexual Predator Bully - TV Tropes

  • ️Fri Jul 12 2024

People don't like bullies. People really don't like sexual predators. So what happens when you combine the two? You get this piece of work.

These types of bullies do a lot of the things that regular bullies do, such as beating people up, blackmail, stealing, spreading rumors, extortion, etc. but add sexual crimes on top of it. They might extort their victims for sexual favors, blackmail people via indecent photographs, commit voyeurism, touch people inappropriately, threaten to hurt people's loved ones to get sex, or other sexually immoral acts. Some of these types of bullies might force other people into assisting with their perverted actions by threatening them in some way.

One especially favorite activity of these types of bullies is to try to steal other people's (particularly the protagonist's) partners, either by humiliating their victims in front of their partners or by trying to seduce or flirt with the victim's lover. Most of the time, the partner will be repulsed by the bully, but in certain works (particularly the netorare genre) the bully will actually succeed in stealing the partner away.

Perverted bullies come in different forms; some are obviously predatory scumbags who barely mask their true nature, while others might put on a mask of respectability to hide their lecherous nature. In regards to their ability to seduce people, some are perfectly capable of getting people to consensually sleep with them, but are still willing to sexually harass and/or rape people out of a sense of entitlement to other people's bodies, pride in their ability to seduce people, or sadism. Other perverted bullies may have no success seducing people, but may or may not be convinced that they're a catch and that the people rejecting them either don't know what they're missing out on or Playing Hard to Get. If the target of their perversions is one of their victims, they might be convinced that the victim is a less worthy partner for their target than themselves.

Sub-Trope of Predatory Pervert. If the bully is also one's workplace superior, this is Sexual Predator Boss. This type of bully might either grow up to be or already is a Serial Rapist. May or may not be a Handsome Lech or an Abhorrent Admirer. Overlaps with Attempted Homewrecker if they harass someone else's partner. Compare/Contrast Loving Bully, who is genuinely in love with the target of their bullying, and usually doesn't act perverted towards their crush. Contrast Lovable Sex Maniac, Ethical Slut, Good Bad Girl, Chivalrous Pervert, and Covert Pervert who are all likable perverts that this type of character might be a foil to.

Because of the various double standards in regards to rape and gender, most examples of this trope are usually straight guys harassing women, with other gender dynamics usually being Played for Laughs, Fanservice, or romance rather than drama or horror. With many cases crossing over with Loving Bully for this reason. In these cases, Unfortunate Implications will often enter with full force.

He is a strong candidate to be considered a Very Punchable Man, and will often get his comeuppance in the form of a well-aimed foot or knee to the crotch.

It's important to note that although Pants-Pulling Prank is considered a form of sexual assault and a fairly common form of bullying, rarely will this form of bullying be seen as a form of sexual bullying in fiction, especially if Played for Laughs.

Unfortunately Truth in Television, and often justified with excuses like "They hurt you because they like you". While these types of people exist in real life, like all Sexual Harassment and Rape Tropes, No Real Life Examples, Please!.

Anime & Manga

  • Candy♡Candy: Neil Leagan bullied Candy White alongside his sister Eliza ever since they were children, because she was their Step Servant. As an adult, he tries to make a move on Candy, going as far as to pin her down and kiss her. A disgusted Candy smacks him and runs away, while Neil screams that she will be his and threatening to harm her and her loved ones if she doesn't comply.
  • Maria no Danzai: Kowase engages in blackmail and selling panty shots on the internet to make money, but at the same time he uses Yashima as his personal punching bag and sex toy (while the sex is not explicit, the implication is quite strong). The only reason Yashima doesn't resist is because Kowase recorded her shoplifting once and she has come to believe that she deserves whatever he does to her.
  • My-Otome: Tomoe Marguerite is a duplicitous schemer. In public, she presents a sweet and friendly demeanor, but behind the scenes, she plots to have Arika expelled, first by having her uniform sold at a seedy shop catering to people fixated on Otome. And when that fails, she sets Arika up to be gang-raped, which is only prevented thanks to the timely intervention of Nao. Tomoe uses Miya Clochette as her catspaw, and will physically attack the girl if her plans fall through, and even arranges for Miya to take the fall for her own crimes, seeing her expelled from Garderobe Academy. And then, when she sides with Nagi in his takeover of the school, she lies to her true target of lust, Shizuru Viola, telling Shizuru that her lover, Natsuki Kruger, has been captured but that if Shizuru cooperates, Natsuki will be well taken care of. In fact, thanks to a smuggled note, Shizuru is aware that it's a lie, but plays along to pull the rug from under Tomoe later.
  • Ranma ½: Tatewaki Kuno combines this trope with Casanova Wannabe and Self-Proclaimed Love Interest; he acts like an obnoxious bully towards the male students (especially Ranma) while harassing the girls he is interested in out of the delusional belief that he's a ladies' man and that the objects of his interest whom openly reject and beat him senseless, are just Tsunderes Playing Hard to Get. In addition, he has no problems touching girls without their consent or buying suggestive photos of them taken by his classmate Nabiki Tendo. His sister, Kodachi, displays similar behavior.
  • Rosario + Vampire:: Saizo Komiya's Establishing Character Moment involves him suggesting that the monsters wipe out all of the human males and keep the women as Sex Slaves. He was sent to Yokai Academy for harassing girls in the human world, and he bullies Tsukune for hanging out with Moka, who he lusts after and later tries to rape, only to get beaten in one kick by Inner Moka.

Fan Works

  • The Awakening of a Magus has Harry scan the surface of Crabbe and Goyle's minds, and determine that in addition to their sadism, they also started developing some unhealthy interest in Goyle's eleven-year-old sister.
  • The Many Dates of Danny Fenton: Dash Baxter is more PG than most examples, but he is still pretty loathsome; he sometimes shows up on Danny's dates and tries to steal them away from Danny by humiliating him and claiming that he would be better because he's a quarterback. In addition, unlike Danny who treats the girls like people, Dash's interest is purely superficial. Unfortunately for him, most girls are repulsed by his arrogant, shallow, bullying attitude, and since many of them are superheroes and/or martial artists, he typically ends up humiliated by them.
  • Miraculous Ladybug fics will often take Lila Rossi's canonical Entitled to Have You attitude toward Adrien and amp it up to truly horrific fashion. Oftentimes Double Standard Rape: Female on Male will be discussed in-universe (i.e., Adrien stating he didn't think anyone would believe him, Lila invoking it) but with it being defied as everyone who finds out what Lila did is disgusted by her actions.
  • How Bad Can A Little Gossip Be: Mr. Ricci's son is a slimy and smug creep who always harasses and stalks Luca and never leaves the poor guy in peace.
  • Stress Relief: This is what Agent South Dakota is depicted as. She was already The Bully in canon, but here, she regularly and violently molests C.T. to blow off steam.
  • With Pearl and Ruby Glowing: Several characters who are simply The Bully in canon also develop sexually abusive traits in this fic to suit the theme of sexual abuse. For some examples, Myrtle accuses Lilo of having sex with her dog and then violates her in a bathroom stall when Lilo says she'll tell on her, and Foxy Loxy and Goosey Loosey sexually abuse Lynn Loud Jr. in a transphobic hate crime. In these cases, the children were also victims of or witnesses to sexual abuse at home and thus had such behavior normalized as a means of intimidation alongside more age-appropriate bullying.

Films — Animated

  • Bambi II has Ronno a fawn who verbally and physically bullies Bambi and tries to steal his girlfriend, Faline.
  • Beauty and the Beast (1991) has Egomaniac Hunter Gaston, who enjoys kicking the crap out of other men at the village tavern and pursues Belle in an increasingly predatory manner. It's particularly blatant when he proposes to her and chases her around the house while refusing to take no for an answer, and when he threatens to have her father committed to Bedlam House if she won't marry him.

Films — Live-Action

  • Back to the Future has Biff Tannen who is a bully to George Mcfly both in 1955 and 1985 in the original timeline but he really ramps it up with his entitled behavior towards Lorraine, even attempting to rape her at the prom. In addition, in the Bad Future in which he's married to Lorraine, he forced her to get breast implants, further emphasizing his lecherous nature.
  • Stoker: One of the bullies shows India a drawing he made of her nude and another attempts to rape her.

Literature

  • Earth's Children: In The Clan of the Cave Bear, Broud eventually escalates into one towards Ayla. He starts out by constantly telling her how ugly she is and how she'll never fit in, bosses her around and is physically violent towards her (including beating her to unconsciousness on one occasion). However, as Ayla grows up she complies with Broud's orders while otherwise ignoring him, and Broud gets a stern warning to not lay a hand on her without good reason (and that beating her to a pulp is completely unacceptable). Once Ayla comes of age in the Clan's eyes, Broud gets the idea of forcing her to have sex with him as a way to torture her (the Clan believe a woman must have sex with any man who chooses her). The first time Ayla tries to resist and Broud violently forces himself on her; she reluctantly complies afterwards to avoid further violence and because none of the clan will intervene.
  • A Pensieve Flashback in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix reveals Harry's late father James to have been an example in his Hogwarts years. Even besides the Pants-Pulling Prank committed against Severus Snape (which possibly escalated to removing Severus's underwear; the memory is abruptly cut off before Harry can find out), James tried to use that as leverage in his pursuit of Lily Evans. He offered to cease his bullying in exchange for Lily accepting his advances and even threatened to personally hex Lily himself when that didn't work. Ironically, he Took a Level in Kindness offscreen after this (though he remained enemies with Severus) to the point where Lily became the mother of his child after they graduated Hogwarts.
  • It: Henry Bowers and Patrick Hockstetter are said by their victims to be highly perverted, with Patrick apparently being caught fondling girls, and his previous teacher is said to be wary of how he acted around girls. In the book, Patrick also gives Henry a handjob and offers him oral sex before Henry punches him. Henry was also said to be sexually harassing Beverly during the story as a form of bullying.
  • The Kite Runner: In 1970s Kabul, Assef is the local neighborhood bully who has an admiration for Hitler, and as a member of the local upper-class/Pashtun ethnic group, he looks down on those beneath him, primarily Hassan, Amir's servant and a member of the Hassara group. Several days after Hassan chased off Assef for threatening Amir, Assef and his cronies corner Hassan, and Assef rapes Hassan as a show of dominance. When Amir returns to Afghanistan in the late 1990s, to rescue Sohrab, Hassan's son and Amir's nephew, as Hassan was Amir's secret half-brother, he's taken to talk to the local Taliban commander, who turns out to be Assef, and who doesn't bat an eye over the fact that he frequently rapes young children, including Sohrab, who's currently his private Sex Slave.
  • "Georgy Peorgy": One interpretation is that Georgy Peorgy is sexually harassing girls, he "kissed the girls and made them cry" but runs away like a Dirty Coward when others show up.
  • Perhaps the most sterling reason why Kvothe starts hating Ambrose unreservedly in The Kingkiller Chronicle is that he walks into the library to find the aristocratic bully pinning the poor and beautiful Fela to a chair with a casual but threatening grip. Since Kvothe takes Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil to a whole other level, this begins a years-long feud that gets deadly dangerous.
  • In Past Mortem by Ben Elton, a serial killer begins targeting victims who bullied others at school. One of them raped a classmate, causing her to develop an eating disorder that was ultimately fatal. Another not only put multiple kids in hospital but threatened to rape his teacher as well.
  • Rainwater: Conrad Ellis is a Schoolyard Bully All Grown Up who still violently terrorizes anyone he can get away with hurting. He also holds a grudge against Ella Barron because she broke up with him in high school over a decade ago. In the present day, he sexually harasses Ella and finally subjects her to an Attempted Rape in front of her son Solly. Ella manages to fight him off with a Groin Attack. Then Solly smashes his head in with a rock.
  • What Happened to Lani Garver: Tony Clementi is a Boomerang Bigot who bullies Lani for being effeminate. He sexually assaults Lani and makes harassing phone calls to him, but also beats him up and says it's because Lani came on to him.

Live-Action TV

  • 13 Reasons Why:
    • Bryce Walker comes off like nothing more than a sexist Jerk Jock in the first few episodes of the first season before evolving into this trope after raping both Jessica and Hannah, sending the latter across the Despair Event Horizon and culminating in her suicide, which sets off the plot. The third season made the controversial decision of having him attempt to atone for his past actions and show genuine remorse, but he never makes a complete recovery and is eventually killed for his crimes.
    • Monty, much like Bryce's initial introduction, seems to be nothing more than another asshole in a letterman jacket. Over the course of the show, it becomes more obvious that the guy is a complete psychopath who goes so far as to brutally sodomize another character with a broomstick handle. Season 3 also reveals that his virulent homophobia stems from his own repressed sexuality, which causes him to beat Winston close to death after they have a sexual encounter.
  • Gwinam from All of Us Are Dead is a vicious high school bully who forces a girl to strip and films her naked with the promise that he's gonna post it on Facebook the next day. He's much worse in the webcomic, going as far as being a Serial Rapist.
  • In Euphoria, Nate Jacobs has a severe porn addiction that has badly affected his ability to form friendships or relationships. He compensates for this by being a cruel and violent bully so that everyone is too scared of him to realize how emotionally stunted he is.
  • The Glory: Jeon Jae-joon and Son Myeong-oh, the two male members of Park Yeon-jin's gang of bullies, rape and sexually assault various victims, including Moon Dong-eun herself. Even worse, Yeon-jin orchestrates most of the attacks alongside other horrific incidents.
  • Homicide: Life on the Street: Mark MaCarron, the Victim of the Week in “Full Court Press”, at first glance seems to be your typical Lovable Jock who represented his school with pride on the basketball field. In actuality, Mark was a sadistic Jerk Jock who brutally bullied at least three boys for petty reasons. It is revealed he had sexually assaulted one of his bullying victims in the locker room as a “prank” and the victim shot him naked while he was taking a shower in retaliation. His death is not treated with any sympathy, and both his bullying victims and one of the detectives investigating the case declare that he got what he deserved.
  • Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: "Unorthodox" has a boy pass out at school from rectal bleeding. The investigation eventually discovers that the perpetrator is a young boy who had been watching copious amounts of pornography and had other victims, male and female, that he'd forced himself on. Unlike most examples of this trope, however, he is also a victim of cruel bullying and everything suggests he is operating from a position of genuine ignorance about what constitutes consensual, safe or age-appropriate relationships, and he is treated with a level of sympathy, to the point that when the jury acquits him, the detectives, though they commiserate with the boy's victims, do not treat it as an example of a jury being stupid or the justice system being flawed the way other episodes have when prosecutions fail. Nor is it treated as an entirely good thing that the boy is then taken away to be institutionalised.
  • The Wilds: Seth Novak from the boys' group really hates being humiliated or brought down to a "lower" level. When he ends up getting pantsed by another boy as a joke, awkward nerd Josh tries to comfort him by saying they are alike, the Ax-Crazy teen proceeds to sexually assault him, proclaiming they have nothing in common.

Video Games

  • Persona 5: Suguru Kamoshida, the first target of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts is the coach of Shujin Academy's volleyball team who exploits his position to emotionally, physically, and sexually abuse his female students. He even goes so far as to pursue a relationship with the ones that catch his eye, such as Ann Takamaki who rejected his advances. In retaliation, Kamoshida sexually assaulted her friend Shiho Suzuki who attempted suicide in an attempt to get away from him.

Visual Novels

  • Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony: Downplayed with Miu Iruma. Calling her a bully might be seen as an exaggeration, given her general lack of tact, but even so, she has no problem sexually harassing her classmates, like calling her classmates virgins or shaming them for not being able to be with a hot girl like her. She also attempted to grope Kaede's breasts without her consent in a Free Time Event or used her Goin' Commando Gun to steal panties.
  • In The Freshman, Manny is a snobbish bully who finds many excuses to pick on Zig including the latter's bisexuality, and then gives him a Forceful Kiss.

Web Animation

Western Animation

  • Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Kanker Sisters are a G-rated version. They've been known to bully pretty much everyone in the cul-de-sac, as well as obsessively stalk The Eds, usually to apply Forceful Kisses on them; they've even been shown to give the same treatment to Kevin and Rolf.
