Stock Characters that originated in Japanese culture, or those that are primarily used in Japanese Media.
Tropes:
- Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Long raven hair adds to the allure of the Ice Queen.
- Anime Chinese Girl: A cutesy Chinese girl, usually with a variable accent.
- Beady-Eyed Loser: An Unlucky Everydude with a gawky appearance to match. (At least, that's what we're told.)
- Bokukko: A girl who refers to herself with masculine Japanese Pronouns.
- Bust-Contrast Duo: An Always Female take on the Red Oni, Blue Oni dictated by the notion of Buxom Beauty Standard.
- Cherry Blossom Girl: Japanese Cherry Blossoms make for popular Flower Motifs.
- The Chikan: Beware — crowded subways provide the perfect opportunity to cop a feel...
- Chuunibyou: The typical Japanese emo teen and/or edgelord with delusions of grandeur. "It's not just a phase, Mom!!"
- Class Representative: A.K.A. the "praepostor", they have peer authority over their classmates and are very keen on getting the most out of them.
- Cosplay Otaku Girl: A Rare Female Example of the otaku cosplayer.
- Creepy Loner Girl: She Looks Like Cesare, and has a gloomy disposition to boot.
- Cute Sports Club Manager: The lovable Team Mom of the High School Sports Club.
- Dark Magical Girl: A Magical Girl, or rival thereof, who is quite often a Broken Bird with a Dark and Troubled Past.
- Dojikko: Lit. "clumsy child", a Cute Clumsy Girl played for maximum moe.
- Elegant Gothic Lolita: Lolita Fashion with a gothic Victorian London aesthetic.
- Fetishized Abuser: Well... as long as it's Safe, Sane, and Consensual, we don't kink-shame.
- Geisha: The traditional kimono-clad entertainer woman.
- Genki Girl: Lit. "energetic" or "enthusiastic". Or in Layman's Terms, hyperhyperhyper!!!
- Gyaru Girl: A practicioner of a popular Japanese subculture steeped in Western fashion and rebellion against traditional standards of beauty.
- Gorgeous Gaijin: A Ms. Fanservice Phenotype Stereotype.
- Harem Nanny: An Unflappable Guardian within the Harem Genre.
- Heir to the Dojo: So, that explains his Big Fancy House and inexplicable martial arts skills!
- Hero's Slave Harem: What do you mean, "Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil?" My ladies don't mind one bit!
- Hikikomori: The Shut-In with a surprisingly complex form of agoraphobia.
- The Idiot from Osaka: A stereotypical depiction of an Osakan (or even just someone from the Kansai region) as a delinquent/hooligan/Lower-Class Lout.
- Idol Singer: Japan's answer to the Teen Idol, often with a much greater focus on Contractual Purity.
- Japanese Beetle Brothers: A tough duo based on the Kabutomushi (rhino beetle) and the Kuwagatamushi (stag beetle).
- Japanese Christian: The history behind them goes a lot further than Anime Catholicism.
- Japanese Delinquents: Much like the Greaser Delinquents of yore, they have their own unique style.
- Joshikousei: Lit. "a female high school student", identified by their Sailor Fuku.
- Kawaiiko: Lit. "cute child", and they take that title very seriously.
- Kendo Team Captain: Kendo is highly ubiquitous in Japan, and so the Kendo Club President must hold a lot of clout.
- Kichiku: Literally "brutal" or "demonic", he's an Always Male Love Interest who's stock-in-trade is Romanticized Abuse.
- Kichiku Megane: A Sub-Trope of the above with Sexy Spectacles.
- Kid Samurai: Everything's Better with Samurai, but even they gotta start somewhere.
- Magical Girl: Frills of Justice, Mentor Mascots, and Super Cute Superpowers — The progenitor of which might just leave you... Bewitched.
- Magical Girl Warrior: Never running from a real fight, indeed.
- Magic Idol Singer: Two great tastes that go great together.
- Maou the Demon King: Only A True Hero can stand a chance against him.
- Miko: The traditional Shinto shrine maiden. Don't get them mixed up with nuns, though.
- Mukokuseki: People in Anime Land appear to be The Stateless.
- Ninja: The masters of stealth. Incredibly flashy stealth.
- Ninja Maid: You might say that they're maid of whoop-ass.
- Occidental Otaku: Did someone just say "weeaboo"?
- Office Lady: Japanese Girl Friday. Likely Hired for Their Looks for a few years before Quitting to Get Married.
- Ojou: A wealthy, high-class lady who may as well be an Honorary Princess.
- Ordinary High-School Student: A likely starting point for The Protagonist before the Call to Adventure.
- Otaku: Stereotypical "neckbeard" with No Social Skills and a borderline unhealthy obsession with their interest of choice.
- Otaku Surrogate: She's the ideal Geeky Turn-On girlfriend!
- Panty Thief: Ooo, floral print...
- Patient Childhood Love Interest: When the Love Interests are Childhood Friends awaiting the right time for a Relationship Upgrade even though Everyone Can See It.
- Rei Ayanami Expy: A fair-colored Not Quite Human Mysterious Waif prone to defrosting.
- Rōnin: A Samurai with no master Walking the Earth.
- Salaryman: The typical overworked White Collar Worker.
- Samurai: A member of the feudal warrior class in feudal Japan.
- Samurai Shinobi: For Westerners, try to imagine a knight and a rogue combined into one.
- School Idol: The tiptop of the Popularity Food Chain.
- Seme: The... erm... "pitcher" in a Yaoi Genre couple.
- Sensei-chan: An unmarried schoolteacher who is practically One of the Kids.
- The Shinsengumi: Secret Police in service of the Tokugawa Shogunate and Spiritual Successor to The 47 Ronin and The Knights Templar.
- Stock Light-Novel Calamity Princess: Prestigious and powerful Love Interest with something to prove against social stigma.
- Stock Light-Novel Everyman: A (somewhat) more mundane take on the archetype below.
- Stock Light-Novel Hero: Unfazed Genius Bruiser Chick Magnet who aquires New Powers as the Plot Demands.
- Stock Shōnen Hero: An Idiot Hero with an endless amount of Japanese Spirit.
- Stock Shōnen Rival: The Hero's eternal rival, often a brooding lone wolf.
- Stock Shoujo Heroine: A relatably awkward and clumsy Naïve Everygirl who Thinks Like a Romance Novel and wins the day with The Power of Love.
- Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: AKA the onryō, a Vengeful Ghost girl in an Ethereal White Dress.
- Sumo Wrestling: The age-old sport of Stout Strength. Let's see you try to Ring Out the gigantic diaper warrior!
- Token Mini-Moe: Is That Cute Kid Yours?? If not, I'm Taking Her Home with Me!!
- Uke: The... erm... "catcher" in a Yaoi Genre couple.
- Unknown Rival: Uh, what do you mean by "We Meet Again"?
- Vampire Lolita Archetype: Our Vampires Are Different, being elegantly-dressed Really 700 Years Old girls and all.
- Yakuza: Japan's organized crime outlet, emphasis on "organized".
- Yaoi Fangirl: A Fangirl of the Yaoi Genre. Who'da thunk it?
- Yamato Nadeshiko: The Japanese Proper Lady. Expect Silk Hiding Steel.
