Tropes found in this episode include:
- Accidental Misnaming: Skizz recurringly mixes up Joel and Jimmy's names in the first round of building, despite the episode theme being literally Joel Smallishbeans.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: It's joked that Joel only suggested such an episode theme to give himself an ego boost, but by the end of it, not only is Joel getting tired of building himself over and over again, but some of the resultant builds and prompts have become increasingly cursed — from Joel losing his clothes to one case of Screw Yourself — and he ends the episode saying that his ego took quite a few hits over the course of the video.
- Distracted by My Own Sexy: Impulse's initial prompt plays on this, being about "Joel looking into a mirror complimenting himself". However, due to him building Joel's hair dye stripe in a non-mirror fashion in the mirror image, the guesses quickly start deviating from the initial prompt.
- Funny Background Event: It's only acknowledged in the build reveals that in Gem's initial build of Joel boxing Shrek, Shrek is actually winning the match.
- Height Angst: Played for Laughs as a carry-over from other series. Grian's initial prompt is based on how Joel sees himself as "really, really tall", which, according to the builds, he's decidedly not.
Gem: (guessing the prompt for Grian's initial build) He wants to be tall!
- Hypocrite: Despite previously being an advocate for banning green humanoid builds, Gem's chosen initial prompt involves her building Shrek.
- It's All About Me: Played for Laughs and literally; Joel's theme for his episode is all about himself. The final guess for Grian's build chain is even "Joel spending all day thinking about himself".
- "No. Just… No" Reaction: Grian threatens to go on strike in response to having to build "Joel making out with another Joel".
Grian: I don't want to build– no, I'm not building this! […] I genuinely am not doing it. I refuse. I'm on strike.
- Please Put Some Clothes On: In Joel's build chain, Impulse's guess of Grian's build is "Joel's pants knocked off by a soccer(football) ball" [sic]… so predictably, Skizz builds Joel without any trousers on. Grian immediately rushes to add some trousers onto the build as Joel tries to rush through the guess prompt to get it over with.
Joel: Put some pants on that man! Get us out of here!
- Romantic Candlelit Dinner: Jimmy's build chain originally revolves himself and Joel having a meal together, with one guess even outright interpreting the dinner date as romantic. For the record, the content creators are both in committed relationships with other people and are, as far as we are aware, straight in real life.
- Rhymes on a Dime: Joel's initial build prompt is "Joel in a hole, eating guacamole whilst scoring a goal", with 'guacamole' pronounced as "guaca-mole".
- Say My Name: Twice in the build reveals.
- Joel loudly shouts Skizz's name in response to his build depicting him with his trousers off. This is quickly followed by a moment of Please Put Some Clothes On from several others.
- This is later followed by a loud "GEM!" when her guess for Joel's build in Skizz's build chain is essentially "Joel making out with himself".
- Screw Yourself: A PG variation. In response to the guess prompt "Joel loves himself", Joel builds two of his Minecraft avatars hugging each other with a heart above them… which Gem decides to take "artistic liberties" to guess as Joel making out with himself.
- Separated by a Common Language: When Impulse has to make a guess along Joel's build chain, he questions exactly how a British person would refer to a soccer ball if the sport is called 'football', and ends up writing both down.note
- Shout-Out:
- Due to Joel's Minecraft skin being based on a humanized Shrek (and his old default skin actually being Shrek), Gem's initial prompt is of "Joel boxing Shrek to see who is the better Shrek". Unfortunately, due to Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure, Skizz ends up reinterpreting Shrek as a Fraggle, which Jimmy ends up building to resemble Winnie-the-Pooh.
- Due to Grian not knowing how to portray Joel being "in a hole", he ends up building said "hole" to be a black set of portals.
- Take That, Audience!: Conversed. Joel's tendency to insult his audience is mentioned by Gem in Impulse's build chain, as it quickly ends up revolving around Joel watching his own YouTube videos.
Build-Joel: You loser.
- Toilet Humour: In lieu of the Vulgar Humor interpretation of the cobwebs, Jimmy opts to guess Skizz's build in Joel's build chain as "joel farting out mysterious objects".
