JumpStart Math for Kindergartners is a game in the JumpStart series of Edutainment Games.
Hopsalot the Rabbit has been invited to the birthday party of Guthry, a giant who lives in CloudTown. As it happens, CloudTown is where birthday parties come from, but Guthry believes that his own birthday has been forgotten. However, the residents of CloudTown are planning a Surprise Party for him, and at the suggestion of a magical flying girl named Dash, Hopsalot joins in on the preparations.
This game provides examples of:
- Accidental Misnaming: Early on in the game, Dash mistakenly refers to Hopsalot as "Jumpsabunch."
- All Balloons Have Helium: The giant cat Breezy blows up balloons, which causes them to float.
- Beanstalk Parody: The story's setup is clearly derived from Jack and the Beanstalk, what with a magical beanstalk sending you up to a giant's home in the clouds. However, instead of robbing and killing the giant, your goal is to prepare his birthday party.
Guthry: Birthdays are supposed to be fee-fi-fo-fun, but everybody fee-fi-fo-forgot mine.
- The Cameo: Bebop, Roquefort, and Jack from JumpStart Kindergarten appear in this game (with their 1997 designs) but only briefly.
- Educational Song: Throughout the game, there are flags with musical notes on them. Clicking on one will cause an educational song to play.
- Exposition Fairy: This is Hopsalot's usual purpose in JumpStart Kindergarten media, but here, he shares that role with Dash.
- Floating Continent: CloudTown consists of "islands" that float in the sky.
- Gentle Giant: Guthry is a friendly, hard-working giant whose job is delivering the birthday stuff made in CloudTown.
- Is It Always Like This?: During Hopsalot's first meeting with the very speedy Dash:
Hopsalot: Do you always move so fast?
Dash: No, sometimes I move faster. - Level in the Clouds: The game takes place in CloudTown, which is obviously located in the clouds.
- Matryoshka Object: At the airport, there's a suitcase with three progressively smaller suitcases inside of it.
- Not-So-Forgotten Birthday: Guthry believes that his birthday has been forgotten, unaware that this entire game is dedicated to arranging his birthday party.
- Rainbow Lite: There are several rainbows seen throughout the game, and most are simplified:
- Too-Loose's rainbow ribbons pare the rainbow down to six colors, eliminating indigo.
- The rainbows singing "Pattern Song" also have six colors, and their final color is called "purple" rather than "violet."
- At the start of "Crazy Card Barn," there's an even more simplified rainbow with only red, yellow, green, and blue.
- Averted in "Rainbow Snowcones," which features a prominent rainbow in the background, and it has all seven official colors.
- Ride the Rainbow: This is how Hopsalot gets to the "Rainbow Snowcones" activity.
- Sleepyhead: Baker Jake is always falling asleep due to his stressful job.
