Monkey Island: The Devil's Triangle (Video Game)

Monkey Island: The Devil's Triangle is a 2001 Monkey Island Fan Game, made in Klik & Play by Chris Ushko aka Datadog. It takes place between The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and is based on Ushko's eponymous fanfic from 1998.

The story revolves around Guybrush's search for the treasure of Big Whoop. At the beginning of the game, he finds himself on Keelhaul Island, where he meets Captain Walker. The captain is in possession of the Big Whoop treasure map, according to which the treasure is located in The Bermuda Triangle. Right after that, the island is attacked by Walker's enemy Sharkjaw and his crew, comprised of giant pirate rats. Walker is killed, and Guybrush makes escape with his daughter Jan Walker and his crew. Now they have to recover the map and navigate to the Bermuda Triangle to find Big Whoop.

The game can be downloaded here; it has been followed by the sequel M:I-2: LeChuck's Revenge.

This game provides examples of:

  • Like Brother and Sister: Guybrush and Jan Walker. They become close friends, but there is never any element of romance between them, because Guybrush is loyal to Elaine Marley.
  • Worthless Treasure Twist: It turns out that the treasure inside the Bermuda Triangle is actually not Big Whoop, but Big Poop (Big Dope in the fanfic). Downplayed, as it's a giant ball made of solid gold, so Guybrush still isn't disappointed.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: It turns out that the treasure inside the Bermuda Triangle is actually not Big Whoop, but Big Poop (Big Dope in the fanfic). However, it's a giant ball made of solid gold, so Guybrush isn't disappointed. He and Jan sell Big Poop and become rich, and he keeps on looking for Big Whoop.
