Cooking with Dog - TV Tropes

Francis and Chef.
Cooking With Dog is a series of YouTube cooking videos showing how to prepare various Japanese dishes. The dog part comes from the show's "host" and narrator Francis, a grey Poodle, and not because they cook with dog meat.
You can watch the videos at their YouTube channel here.
Cooking With Dog features examples of:
- Catch Phrase: "Good luck in the kitchen!"
- Combat Tentacles: "There are many tentacles, but don't be scared. They will not attack you."
- Cooking Show
- Don't Try This at Home: In the video about boiling a fresh octopus arm
, Francis says that some people who live in coastal areas where octopus is caught will dedicate a particular washing machine at their local laundromat for cleaning the goo off of octopus arms, claiming that the machine does the job faster than the hand-rubbing with coarse salt method that Chef is doing and also tenderizes the meat. Without missing a beat, Francis gently warns not to try this at your local public laundry.
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": The chef is referred to only as "Chef".
- Formula-Breaking Episode: Some of the newer videos are of "Francis" (Or rather, a plushie of him), visiting various food establishments and restaurants in Japan.
- Funny Background Event: In the Green Tea Mochi
episode, the image of Francis on Chef's apron is animated at points and talks along with the narration, perhaps slightly taking the edge off of the fact that this episode postdates the real Francis's passing.
- Holiday Mode: Francis wears a Santa hat in the Christmas Cake video
. Christmas Mode is in full effect for the Crepe video
, with the back of the kitchen decked out in lights and decorations.
- Impossibly Delicious Food: According to some of the comments, at least.
- Intentional Engrish for Funny: The show clearly has people on staff who are fluent in English, given that the show is narrated in largely grammatically-correct English and has embedded English subtitles for Chef, yet the show has kept the name "Cooking With Dog" and the ending tagline "YOU LIKE BUTTON". Presumably, they realize that these add to the charm of the series.
- Interspecies Romance: Parodied, and one-sided in the narration for the Takoyaki and Ebiyaki video- after plugging one of her videos, Francis says that if he weren't a toy poodle, he would've asked emmymadeinjapan out on a date.
- Lucky Charms Title: The "o" in dog is replaced with a paw print. Originally, the two o's in cooking were as well.
- Precious Puppy: It wouldn't be quite as cute without a dog acting as the host for a cooking show.
- Please Subscribe to Our Channel: Every video ends with "RATE ME!" or "YOU LIKE BUTTON!"
- Public Domain Soundtrack: Frédéric Chopin's Minute Waltz plays in the background of most videos.
It's also known as the Puppy Waltz.
- What the Hell Is That Accent?: Francis sounds like a Japanese man trying to emulate a French accent. The result is strange and hilarious.
"Good luck in the kitchen!"
