Reuploading my old Gmod9Fan vids circa 2006

gmod9fan reuploads' channel description

gmod9fan reuploads is a Garry's Mod psychological horror Machinima series whose creator is unknown.

The series takes the form of a YouTube channel belonging to a "Gmod9Fan", who is archiving their videos from originally featured on YouTube in 2006. The videos presented resemble very old school and innocuous machinima, but a closer inspection reveals there is more at play.

gmod9fan reuploads is arguably the first of its kind, and would inspire similar Source Engine-themed horror in other series such as Classic GM Videos.

The series ran from Oct 8, 2017 to Nov 12, 2019 and can be watched in the link provided above.

This channel provides examples of:

  • Eyeless Face: The Cheaple model, having been created for low LOD purposes, has no visible eyes. After the player blows up the dark room in "Done", we get a brief shot of the Cheaple, now with eyes, suddenly imposed over the video footage.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: "How 2 Crash A Server Easy In Gmod9" has the player demonstrate doing just that by crucifying a Cheaple ragdoll, and it seems to result in said Cheaple haunting the player's game.
  • Jump Scare: Mostly in the form of abrupt loud noises, in "How 2 Crash A Server Easy In Gmod9" and "Junk Footage #3".
  • Haunted Technology: There is something inside the player's game, with evidence of its presence going as far as the first video on the channel.
  • Kid Hero: One of the videos' descriptions mentions that the player was 13 years old when they supposedly made the original video uploads in 2006.
  • Meaningful Background Event: In "Junk Footage #2", the entity is watching the player playing with NPCs from a distant doorway, and the video dirtorts and ends just as they aim their camera directly at it.
  • Mind Screw: "Done". The player, seemingly trying to destroy whatever is haunting their game, spawns dozens of explosive barrels in the Construct dark room and blows it up. The Cheaple (now with eyes) imposes itself over the video for a bit and once the player goes into the dark room, they find out they literally blew a hole through it, leading into the darkness. The video ends with them venturing into it.
  • Ominous Visual Glitch:
    • Right on the first video in the channel, the footage starts with the game glitching out, revealing a distorted T-posing model looming in the background.
    • "Junk Footage #3" has the whole game freak out and go dark after the player dies, with them seemingly panicking in response by trying to hide before closing the game altogether.
  • Sinister Silhouettes: The entity in the player's game appears as this.
  • Stylistic Suck: The channel's videos are made to resemble old school Source Engine machinima made by a child, with sloppy stop-motion animation, low resolution and amateur use of Windows Movie Maker.
  • Unreliable Narrator: As the series progresses, the video descriptions take a strange turn, with some cutting off abruptly or having the player claim to have no memory of having created the videos.

I don't remember this one. I'm not sure I remember any of these. But I think I understand now.
