World War II

DeHaven saw action in operations at Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa during World War II.

DeHaven was on radar picket station on August 15, 1945 when the Japanese accepted unconditional surrender. On September 1, 1945 she embarked Rear Admiral John Shafroth for transportation to Tokyo Bay, and the next day anchored 1500 yards off the bow of the USS Missouri during the signing of the surrender.
