October 2008

Can bluwiki be used for hosting entirely commercial and public wikis? Yes! You can host any wiki you like, within the boundaries of common sense. There is another wiki site available at MyWikiBiz, where they can help you with advertising and promotion. That's not really what we're equipped to do.

Can I use my own domain name, say www.XYZ.com, so the users won't see bluwiki.com in the URL of any of the pages on my wiki? Yes, you can use a domain name as a redirect but it will still redirect to a *.bluwiki.com URL. Sorry, we aren't equipped to change that yet.

Can I insert advertisments from my google adsense account? Unfortunately no (and this goes for any website not just AdSense) and that feature is not likely to be added. Put simply, this would require installing a MediaWiki plugin to turn the HTML of the ads into a MediaWiki tag. Although these plugins do exist, we do not plan on using them because that is not part of what we do. If you absolutely need to do this, MyWikiBiz does allow AdSense ads. BluWiki may have ads of its own (from Adsense), this helps us pay our bills.

Can I have customisable forms which user will be able to fill in when editing or creating standard pages. For example I could have a form for a biography page. Anytime someone adds a new person's biography to my wiki, they will just fill in a form. You can make a template, which can include some sort of "barebones" page the user can fill out and expand if needed. Other than that, that's the only way I know of.

Suppose a user sets up an account on my bluwiki hosted wiki, will I be able to take that user account away with me, if some day in the future I choose to host my wiki somewhere else? No, all accounts on BluWiki share the same database.

can I set a template to automatically include itself when editing a new page on My personal wiki? Yes. Wikipedia's help page on templates is here. It works the same way here as there.

Can, and if so, how can I delete my account (as a user)? You cannot. It would be very time-intensive to delete all of a person's contributions. Just stop using your account or change the password to something you won't remember again.

Some of my links to subpages at http://ausfehlernlernen.bluwiki.com/go/Ausfehlernlernen do not seem to work anymore. "Beispiel: Müll" does not work, "Beispiel: Schmierpapier" works. Maybe because of the German "ü"? What do you think? BluWiki's support of Unicode is not complete. Try to use normal English letters, no accents. It will be fixed sometime in future.

Can I set up a Wiki that can only be accessed by a certain community of users? For example, would it be possible to restrict access to a certain range of IPs, or give access only to invited users? My group wants to create a wiki, but doesn't want it available to our competitors at the moment. No, we don't have any form of access control at present. This is one of the projects that Sam wants completed that he needs help with. (Can you help?)

1)please tell me the easy process to use my own domain .It's better if you give the numeric IP adress .I will edit my settings to my domain by using Zoneedit.com . 2)Can i add Adbrite, pagads and other affliate adcodes in html pages . 3)Can i use telugu an indian language.
1) I recommend EveryDNS. All you should need to do is add a CNAME entry for bluwiki.com.

2) I've already answered this in October, please check the answer there.

3) I really don't know. Try it.

Is it OK that people are setting up their own independent wikis on the domain that I created? Should I just ignore them? Hrairoo 03:42, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

You aren't understanding the nature of subdomains here. It isn't a subdomain (or domain) reserved just for you and you alone, complete with your own user database, your own access controls, admin access to delete/protect any page you like, etc etc. Because everything on the wiki relies on one database (not one for each user), this means anyone can make pages. ie, I can go and make a page yoursubdomain.bluwiki.com/go/thisismypage, which is exactly the same as bluwiki.com/go/thisismypage. That is how the wiki works. The subdomain (or domain) only acts like a shortcut to the real page, which is located at http://bluwiki.com/go/yourpagegoeshere
Gotcha. So I'm thinking that probably these people are not actually posting to "my" subdomain--they only appear to me to be in the same subdomain, because it's actually all one domain?
Correct.
Do you run into a lot of problems with people trying to pick names for pages that are already taken by another wiki? Hrairoo 04:28, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Not really, no. We don't have a log with those sorts of errors. The end user gets the error and has to choose again.

I am trying to verify my email address, and I get the error "Could not send confirmation mail. Check address for invalid characters." I don't have any characters in my email address. Can you help me with this?--Krauschristopher1 15:13, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I'll get it looked at.
