Herb J. Wesson, Jr. is a California politician. He currently serves as a Los Angeles City Councilman, representing the 10th district. He served in the State Assembly representing the 47th district from 1998 until 2004. He served as Speaker of the California State Assembly from 2002 until 2004. After being termed out of the legislature, he became a senior advisor and special assistant to Supervisor Yvonne Burke. On November 8, 2005, Wesson was elected with almost 80% of the vote to represent the tenth district on the Los Angeles City Council, in a special election to fill the vacancy created when Martin Ludlow resigned to become head of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor [2]. Wesson won a full term in March 2007 with 99.7% of the vote [3].

Prior to his service in the State Assembly, Wesson served as the Chief of Staff to former tenth district councilmember Nate Holden, and as the Chief of Staff to former Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Burke.

Wesson received his undergraduate degree from Lincoln University, PA. He is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans.
