Nimble drone for indoor flying by a reputable manufacturer
Drone works well. I picked this drone based on reviews by the websites Wirecutter and Tom's Hardware and the fact that the manufacturer, Horizon Hobby, is a well regarded name in the remote control vehicle hobby industry. I've also flown a DJI Mavic Pro and there is no comparison between the two. The DJI Mavic is much easier to fly because it hovers in one place when not given any user input whereas this drone will promptly crash. However, the DJI Mavic Pro is also over 10x as expensive as this drone. If you just want to fly an agile drone around your house (this drone is best suited for indoor flying), the Blade Nano is a solid choice. The Blade Nano is light enough that it has survived many collisions with walls, ceilings, floors, etc. One of the propeller guards snapped off after a particularly forceful impact against a wall but I was able to glue it back on with superglue. It would be great if the manufacturer could design the drone with replaceable propeller guards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to fly; a challenge to master; great intro to RC
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2014
I have a nephew who is immersed in RC flying. He bought a Blade Nano QX (herinafter, "quad") before he left for a trip, during which he knew he would have a fair amount of free time. He emailed me on the first or second day of his trip and told me that this might be a fun way to introduce myself to the RC experience. We're both pilots, so he knew I was intrigued. Because the price was so reasonable, I ordered one after doing a little more reading about it. The next day, I ordered a couple of extra batteries and the separate battery charger (Celectra 4-Port 1S 3.7V 0.3A DC Li-Po Charger; see separate review).
Both orders arrived on the same day, which was nice ... I had multiple batteries and therefore longer flying time. In addition to the quad, the package, which doubles as a carrying case - with handle - comes with a transmitter, one battery, and a USB charger. This allows for one flight (about 7 minutes, give or take) before recharging, which takes about 30-40 minutes. I learned this from my nephew; it would have been a little disappointing to learn this by myself. I think it's much easier to learn with the minimal interruption of changing the battery than it would be with the interruption of the charging time.
Out of the box, the instructions were simple and easy to follow. Li-Po batteries are NOT charged before shipping, so the first thing to do is charge the battery(ies). The battery slides into a simple plastic bracket on the bottom of the quad. Pushing it all the way forward places it in the correct position for balance. AFTER turning on the transmitter, assure that the throttle is at its minimum setting (fully back), connect the battery, and place the quad upright on a flat surface. The red LED blinks a few times while it syncs with the transmitter. When the LED stops blinking (turns blue in stable mode), it's ready to fly.
Here are a couple of things the manual doesn't explicitly state: ease the throttle forward to check that each of the four motors spins up. They almost always will, and the quad will just sit there. When there's a problem, you won't watch the quad go off into the nearest obstacle. After this, give the quad enough throttle to make it "jump" slightly off the surface; try to level it off at about eye level. Trying to take off gently makes control more challenging, because of the turbulence it's creating close to the surface. Next, try to just keep it at the same height. This becomes easier with a little experience, but it's a good way to begin to get used to control response. More important, you will find out whether or not the quad is trimmed properly. If it's not, you'll be fighting your own inexperience PLUS the instability of the aircraft ... not fun.
The manual does a fair job of explaining the trim buttons. The important thing is that you can't assume that the aircraft is trimmed properly, because there are variables that can change - even during a flight. Get used to using the trim buttons on the controller; it will make flying easier.
This quad uses "smart" technology to stabilize the aircraft, which makes it perfect for beginners, but it also has a setting that allows for "acrobatic" mode, which should challenge even the most proficient. No aircraft is indestructible, but this quad is designed to deal extremely well with hard landings, bumping into walls (in any direction), and flying up against the ceiling without it being a problem. I haven't managed to damage it yet.
In addition to having extra batteries for the quad and a multiple-port charger to charge several at a time, you'll probably find that you want to have the AC adapter for the charger (sold separately, although not expensive). You may also want to have 4 (or more) D cells, which you can use to power the charger when you don't have access to AC power. And 3 or 4 batteries won't last forever, so if you fly the quad a lot, you'll want to buy more than just a couple extra.
I gave the Blade Nano QX 5 stars because it seems to do everything it's supposed to do perfectly - at least so far, and I've had it several weeks and flown it 3-6 flights most days. Although the things I've mentioned in this review may sound like criticisms, they are intended only to help prospective buyers recognize some things that may not be apparent. If you're experienced in the RC world, you'll know all of these things, but what my nephew told me he got for "about $70 out the door" has turned into more of a $150 toy, give or take. That's not really a complaint, either. The fun has already been worth more than that.

Report4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for home use
Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2014
I recently bought a Blade Nano QX for some fun and it arrived without any problems. The box has everything needed even 4 AA batteries for the remote. I've flown and built quadcopters before so I know how to fly them but this one is very easy and steady with its default configuration. I have a couple of WLToys quads (V929 and V939) and although they are fair, this one is really good for beginners. I have a 7-year-old son that cannot fly the V939 but can at least hover the V929. This quad in stability mode and low rates is very easy. The built in prop guards protect from mild crashes on walls and furniture too.
Yet it also has higher rates and agility mode which lets you pilot this like a regular quad. This is great and it flies about as well as my homebuilt quads and yet this does so without tuning. The battery has so far provided 6-7 minutes of flight time though it takes just over 30 minutes to charge. I have put on order a few more batteries from another etailer with a pico balance cable so I can charge multiple batteries simultaneously.
If there is any downside, and the reason for 4 stars, it is the provided remote. It it works fine but is very basic without any display to show you settings or where your trims are. The V929 and V929, although less expensive, come with remotes with displays so you know your settings at a glance. In defense of this remote though, the quad's colours change to tell you its mode and the red light on the remote blinks when you are in low rates. I am currently ordering a Spektrum DSMX compatible module for my hobby radio so I likely won't be using the provided remote for long. It does do the job though so you don't need another radio for just having fun in the house.
Overall, I would say the product and the package are very well done. The manual provided is quite good and is presented in multiple languages too. I would recommend this quad highly to any beginner who wants to start off with quads or even people that build their own but want a small quad to fly indoors. In agility mode it flies like the full size quads.
LZT.1.0 out of 5 stars 2nd horrible blade heli
Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2013
When I first opened it it was on stability mode and just went inverted. I called Blade and they said you have the wrong rotors witch is almost impossible to tell because they all look the same and they should just come with the right rotors. then its very difficult to trim like my other blade. I watched blade's tips and trick video and did what they said was the flip instructions. I did and it just went inverted and stayed that way with rotors on it was 5 feet of the ground it crashed and the cock pit fractured and nearly split. I changed it and decided to stay in stability mode, and was more gentle with it.It's prop guards seemed non existing because as soon as the thing hit the wall it falls and a few times later it falls off. I hope this review was helpful and if you are looking for a standard beginner helicopter i recommend either syma s107g or s107c. I have c my friend has g the only difference is the c has a camera . I love the both the g white version only cost me 15 dollars and they are both easy to fly and fun helicopters so easy the box says 14 and up i was twelve when I got it the trimming is amazingly easy and I even tought a 9 year old to fly it 2 and half hours granted it had to charge for an hour every 10 minutes or so

5.0 out of 5 stars Dron pequeño pero de mucha calidad
Reviewed in Spain on January 15, 2016

Just getting started with it but I am sure I'll get the hang of it. Much more stable than the Micro Drone that I have since discarded.
