5.0 out of 5 stars Good Old Fashioned Stories
Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2014
These stories came from the JUNGLE STORIES pulp magazine in the late thirties and early forties. You could still find some of those old magazines around when I was growing up and they were fun to read, although I didn't appreciate them then as much as I do now. And I think it was because they were not Tarzan. However, these were/are good fun stories to read. No, they are not Tarzan, but they are very good stories anyhow. There were probably about fifty-five novel length Ki-Gor novels and the first two volumes do the first eleven. About this time they picked up better writers and the quality is evident. Volume #3 should be a real hum-dinger! (Oh, for those of you unaware, the author's name of John Peter Drummond is just a house name and a number of different writers contributed to the saga.) If you like those old slam bang tongue in cheek stories, this is a fun book!

Report5.0 out of 5 stars Great Jungle Tales
Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2012
Seems like a new author at the helm now. Either that or the original author has improved greatly. The dialog is no longer, "You Jane, me Tarzan," stuff. Plus, the author creates several story plots within each adventure, which makes for a better read. Well, "Ki-Gor - And The Paradise That Time Forgot" was easily forgotten. Not a very good yarn. However, the next four stories were top notch for Ki-Gor. Oh, Ki-Gor isn't Tarzan, but that's to be expected. I think the stories only get better from now on. And we may see new authors brought into the series along the way. I'm still discouraged with Helene. What she's doing in the jungle is beyond me. I think Ki-Gor would have done better picking a native girl for his mate. At least she would have been better jungle trained and not so helpless.
Definitely a great series, and I'm looking forward to each new volume in the series from Altus Press.
