5.0 out of 5 stars A joyous and exhilirating album
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2014
First, let me say "thank god" for Audacity (and other music editing software). Being a guy who vastly prefers albums over "greatest hits", I do sympathize with Prince's desire to have people hear "Lovesexy" all the way through. However, lumping the entire album into one track is simply too heavy-handed and annoying.
The good news is, you won't be wanting separate tracks in order to skip past filler. True, one early track ("Glam Slam") is somewhat banal and slows the album's momentum a bit. However, overall "Lovesexy" is so bright and exuberant that it surges through its 45-minute play time and leaves you wanting more. That's where the problem comes: some songs are simply so great you'll long to hear them a second or third time. Obvious candidates include "Eye No", the hit "Alphabet St", "I Wish U Heaven", "Lovesexy" with its hilariously dirty ending, and the furiously-percussive "Dance On".
Overall, "Lovesexy" is Prince at his absolute brightest, most optimistic, and most densely funky. The album has rapidly become one of my very favorites, alongside "Sign 'O' The Times" and "1999". It's an absolutely visionary album, and interchangeable with nothing else he's released. Forget the racy cover, the "Black Album" fiasco, etc. - this CD is a definite must-have.
5.0 out of 5 stars A 1 song medley of songs that never disappoints

In 1988, Prince was in the process of recording what is now known as "The Black Album" as his follow-up to "Sign O The Times". He one day felt that it would be spiritually wrong to release the "Black Album" at all and only kept one song from it and instead recorded this lovely album "Lovesexy". There is a spiritual vibe but it's one that's incredibly inviting.
The album is all in 1 track (unless you can find a version where they track all 9 songs). By being 1 45 minute track, it gives it even more of an enchanting quality; it might be a hassle to some, but every song is great in it's own right.
My copy of this album skips at the half-way point and I'm going to buy another copy in the not-to distant future. That should indicate to you how much I think of this album.
Any fan of Prince should own this and even people new to Prince could appreciate at least some of whats on here. Buy it.

Lovesexy is like an acid trip from God.where everything's cool cuz there's no smack on his brain.it is also the end of the magic from Minneapolis.
The album, the themes, the tour of 88,Sheila E.,Cat and Ingrid Chavez.
Lovesexy and the Black Album followed Sign of the times(87).
Both are strongly recommended if new to Prince.
I would also recommend vinyl for both.
The Lovesexy CD is just one long track.
But that is the only flaw, really.
PopArt straight outta 1988.
On Prince own terms.
Lovesexy always the way.
4.0 out of 5 stars Seduced once more by Prince

Prince charms us again! He keeps us wondering what sexy lyric will lure us into the next song, as he flows from funky danceable tunes like "Positivity" and "Alphabet Street" to slow and dreamy tunes like "I Wish U Heaven" and "When 2 R In Love." His eroticism is highly present (when isn't it?) as is his religious/spiritual side-- see his new cupid look on the album cover. Don't miss the happening funk that gets you up and dancing!
5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with Prince!

The Purple One. One of his best CDs. Wasn't initially happy when he let The Revolution go but it took me some years to accept the NPG. They did good job and now appreciate his music even the more. Still haven't figured out how to break up the songs on this CD because they run back-to-back with no breaks but I do enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chef d'oeuvre absolu
Reviewed in France on July 21, 2016

The tracks are split up unlike the original release. Much better. You should revisit this one. I think it's one of Prince's best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It !

One of the best Prince albums ever. Every track is good/great especially Alphabet Street, Anna Stesia the title track & the 2 ballads I Wish U Heaven, When 2 R In Love. Also worth a listen are Eye No and Glam Slam the final track Positivety is a great closer a great all round Prince effort worth the money as the sound quality is brilliant and unlike the C.D. you can play different tracks when you want to. ( the C.D. version has only 1 track of 45 mins ie the whole album .

5.0 out of 5 stars La gloria y el poder que es Prince en su momento más alegre y despreocupado.
Reviewed in Spain on January 23, 2020
