DON'T EXPECT CARELESS WHISPER ON THE VINYL LP

DON'T EXPECT CARELESS WHISPER ON THE VINYL LP

I own the original CD. It did NOT include the cover of "Careless Whisper" and neither does this 2 LP lavender vinyl... despite the hype sticker on the front of the album proclaiming, "Featuring the hit singles 'Fake It' and 'Careless Whisper'." Obviously, somebody at the record company isn't paying attention. (I've provided pics of the hype sticker from the front and the actual tracklist from the back.) I don't miss that song, but somebody else may, so just be aware that the hype sticker is wrong. Other that that, it's a clean pressing, although not 100% quiet. The mix sounds different than the original CD--in some places cleaner, but in other places not as powerful--so I'd call it a wash. Side D contains no music. Instead, it is etched with a simplified version of the front cover illustration. I tried to capture it in a pic, but as you can see, it was difficult to capture without including reflections, but you get the idea.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best rock albums, ever.

Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2010

Before purchasing this album I had heard a couple of the tracks. The thing is the flow of the album from start to finish is not justified by simply hearing a song or two out of context. This is album is very reminiscent of Nirvana and Alice In Chains, of course two of Sean Morgan's big influences. Seether's sound is definitely well defined in this album, and unfortunately (thanks to the information age) this album may go unnoticed, people just don't buy records anymore. That aside this is an incredible album, I hope Seether runs in the direction of this album for the rest of their career.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Twelve Bucks Well Spent

Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2015

Howard Benson is one of my favorite producers. He's the man behind the curtain for several fantastic rock acts, collaborating with Skillet, Creed, Flyleaf, Red, and much more. That being said, I haven't had time to listen to nearly every album he's produced, but out of the many I have had the pleasure of experiencing, Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces is easily the best. It's a fantastic listen start to finish, with the highlights being the humorous (and rude) "Fake It," radio-ready relationship song "Breakdown," and memorable "Walk Away From the Sun." One of the oddest parts about this record is "Eyes of the Devil," which ends with the line "Jesus, save me" sung passionately again and again. The cry for divine help comes out more honest and meaningful than any scripted spiritual regurgitation you'll find on a religious record, but such Christian sentiment feels out of place on a foul-mouthed album like this. Don't let the fact that there are only three explicit songs make you think there are only a handful of wayward words to worry about; vocalist Shaun Morgan drops the "f-bomb" over 20 times. ("FMLYHM" is the filthiest song, but the tune is so great it's a guilty pleasure, and definitely one of the album's most enjoyable moments.) Profanity aside, the only thing to be concerned about is the fact that "No Jesus Christ" is SEVEN MINUTES long, tempting me to skip it every time it comes on. And if your purchase includes both of the "Careless Whisper" bonus tracks, you're left with the choice to either skip one of them or listen to the same song twice, which is bothersome. (Skip the normal version. The strings version has a better outro and serves as a stronger conclusion to the album). At the end of the day, if you love great rock, this record is for you.

This album is great even if you are not a huge Seether fan. This was really the first Seether album I listened all the way through and it catches you from the moment track one starts. This album has something for everyone. It has the "mainstream" songs that are played on the radio and the heavier darker tunes that appeal to most when listening to this music genre.
This is a great complete album for anyone looking to get into Seether.

An excellent album from Seether with possibly their best known and most popular track, "Fake it".
On first play the album made itself feel like an old favourite, an album you always enjoy cranked up to 11 and join in with. Definitely recommended! 👍👍

A very good sounding record. The depth is excellent a full amount on most of the record. The upper end detail is a little on the weak side, I thought it sounded better with the treble turned up a notch. The tone is just a bit on the dark side. The vinyl sounds better than the CD I own which has a bit less depth. The vinyl quality itself is also very good with not much surface noise.
