~ TAYLOR'S 2nd album "CAN'T FIGHT FATE", gets the DELUXE Treatment and sounds better than ever! ~

With Taylor's huge success of her debut 1987 album "TELL IT TO MY HEART", she was on a roll and hit it again in 1989 with "CAN'T FIGHT FATE".The album sounds better than it ever has and the DELUXE EDITION is beautifully done.We get 2 CDs, the original album with a few extra songs, one that was not on the original album "All I Ever Wanted" and 2 mixes of other songs. The second CD is mixes of the popular songs from the original album, 10 in all. I am not sure if there are any other mixes of songs that were left off of this EDITION, but it is amazing to have after 30 years since her debut in '87.If you are a TAYLOR DAYNE FAN of her music, you owe it to yourself to get his Edition soon!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.I have taken a few pictures of the inside of the album artwork and layout below my review...

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound quality and extended mixes on the 2 CD Deluxe version... Thanks Amazon Japan!

Although I've always been primarily into 'Classic Rock', I can find music within many genres that I appreciate. I've always liked Taylor Dayne, especially the "Can't Fight Fate" release. Amazing voice, and although it's 'dance oriented', the band definitely rocks! The sound quality is excellent, and I really wanted the extended mixes for these songs. It's been tough to accurately find special edition CDs of older music - the items often seem to be mislabeled (better luck with MP3s), and you can wind up with a 'standard edition' CD instead. I had faith in Amazon Japan to come through correctly, and sure enough, they did! Great CD set in new / perfect shape... Thank you!

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Her Best Album

Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2019

This is an Excellent album from Ms. Dayne. Her first album was great too but she really knocked it out of the park here. The deep album cuts are just as good if not better than the big hit singles on here (WITH EVERY BEAT OF MY HEART, LOVE WILL LEAD YOU BACK, I'LL BE YOUR SHELTER, HEART OF STONE). Her first album was more dance-oriented but she really shows she can handle the rock stuff on this effort. YOU CAN'T FIGHT FATE should have been a huge single; she almost treads into House territory on UP ALL NIGHT and the Freestyle/Pop mix of WAIT FOR ME would have been right at home on the first album. Still Fabulous after all these years! The 12" versions on the second disc are just icing on the cake.

Taylor at her best. Great songs, great vocal performances, and great packaging. While all of the extra mixes are not necessarily needed, they sure are nice to have.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Taylor Dayne With Every Beat Of Her Heart

Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2015

Because her debut album was such a huge hit? I imagine Arista records wanted to make sure Taylor Dayne had her sophomore album ready before the 80's closed out. After all, these were the years Whitney Houston didn't have any albums out (in 1988/1989). And as far as I can see? Taylor Dayne was one of the few artists on the label vocally capable of matching the power of Whitney's vocals. Since that's purely speculative on my part? This album is probably best viewed as it is. And in many ways it's a world apart from her first album.

"With Every Beat Of My Heart" starts the album out with a sleek dance/pop style number with an incesent melody while "I'll Be Your Shelter" focuses her in a more pop/rock direction. This is especially true for the guitar power chord driven rockers of the title song and the closer "Ain't No Good". "Love Will Lead You Back" is a melodically and harmonically dynamic gospel/soul inspired AC ballad while "I Know The Feeling" takes on the same tempo with something more of a poppy flavor. "Up All Night" is a strong and upbeat house/disco revival number while "Heart Of Stone" is a mid tempo urban contemporary synthesizer based number. "You Meant The World To Me" has a bouncy/Motown girl group pop flavor about it's sunny melody and horns.

Every single song on this album is just as expertly played and performed as the first. And it happily shared the debut's success. Now for a funk/soul enthusiast such as myself? That quality that Taylor Dayne had in the beginning of her career is very much absent from this album. Gone are the freestyle uptempo tunes, strong sense of the funky groove and her gospel/soul wail. Vocally speaking Taylor Dayne's vocals are focused more at being a loud, shrieking rock singer on this album. There are many songs suited to her more soulful side, especially it's big hit of it's third track. Yet a lot of the songs aren't quite saucy enough for the most powerful side of Taylor Dayne's vocal personality. Very good album. Though more in a pop crossover mode overall.
