Webb signs with Pons for FR3.5

  • ️Fri Feb 18 2011

The 19-year-old makes the move after a single season in F3, which saw him finish third in the championship.

He has already two days of FR3.5 testing experience from a run with his F3 team Fortec's Renault arm last winter, and is delighted to secure a 2011 deal with motorcycle legend Sito Pons' squad.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to race with Pons Racing in the World Series by Renault championship," said Webb.

"The calendar and grid are very strong and it will therefore be a tough year, but after a visit to the team workshop I have no doubts that we will be fighting as a main contender.

"It was a late deal, but one that has taken a great weight off my shoulders, to be lucky enough to get such a good team with great success behind me and our 2011 championship attack."

Pons expects Webb to be a victory contender from the outset in his FR3.5 rookie year.

"Oliver is highly promising young talent who achieved excellent results in his rookie year in the competitive British F3 championship," said Pons.

"He has made the right move to the World Series by Renault and we are convinced that he will waste little time in adapting to the characteristics of the new car and championship.

"For our part we will do everything in our capacity to give him the necessary support he needs to fight for victory in every race."
