Damon Albarn is on a creative hot streak. Three months after Blur released its first studio album in 12 years, the British songwriting icon will return to the studio in Sept. 2015 to work on a new album for the animated experimental troupe Gorillaz.
The Blur frontman dropped the news today (July 16) in an interview for the Australian television program ABC 7.30.

“I’m starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record,” he said. “I’ve just been really, really busy so I haven’t had a chance. I’d love to just get back in to that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week.”

Albarn has indeed been busy. The interview came out of press for Blur’s first Australian tour in almost 20 years, linked to the band’s new LP The Magic Whip, which dropped April 27. In 2014, he released Everyday Robots, his debut solo album. Gorillaz’ last studio effort was 2011’s The Fall.
The so-far-untitled LP will be the band’s fifth overall, adding to a catalogue that includes alt-hits like “Clint Eastwood,” “Feel Good, Inc.,” and “Stylo.”

Earlier this year, Jamie Hewlett (Gorillaz’ other half) previewed the band’s return by posting new drawings of animated members Murdoc Niccals and Noodle to Instagram. Check them out below:
