Cherie Tan, Aumi Guerra lead the women's second qualifying round at 49th Bowling World Cup | bowlingdigital.com

Overnight leader Caroline Lagrange (pictured left) of Canada posted the third-highest 1449 series in the second round of qualifying to maintain her lead in the women's division of the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup currently underway at Sharovaya Molniya bowling center in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, Russia.

The 2009 women's World Cup champion averaged 241.50 for the day behind games of 203, 269, 258, 237, 268 and 214 to lead the field of 64 women with 2959 and overall average of 246.58 for 12 games.

Singapore's Cherie Tan and Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic topped Lagrange on Wednesday to narrow the gap to 99 and 123 pins, respectively.

Tan (left) led all women today with 1471, an average of 245.17, including games of 257, 259, 265, 226, 235 and 229 to move from fourth to second place with 2860 (238.33 average).

Guerra (right), who won back-to-back World Cup titles in 2010 & 2011 and finished second to Tan's compatriot Shayna Ng last year was mere nine pins behind Tan with 1462.

Guerra used games of 289, 234, 247, 213, 224 and 255 to leap two spots into third place with 2836 (236.33).

There is a bigger gap between third and fourth place. Danielle McEwan, United States, posted the fifth-best 1369 series but fell one place to fourth with 2769. Luminita Farkas Bucin, Romania, slipped from second to fifth on a 1315 series and with 2727 total.

Norway's Patcharin Torgersen and Thashaina Seraus (left) of Aruba rolled 1337 and 1334 to move up three spots each into sixth and seventh place with 2672 and 2655, respectively.

Autum Chamberlain of England remained in eighth place with 2654 behind a 1317 series. The top 8 after 32 games will advance to round robin match play.

Sweden's Sandra Andersson (right) used games of 279 and 290, the highest game in the women's division so far, for 1351 to leap from 16th to ninth place with 2652.

Evgeniya Zelenkova (left) from the host country Russia posted the fourth-best 1370 series including high games of 255 and 248 to move from 20th to 14th place with 2627.

Aussie Kate Pilkington was eleven pins behind with 1359 including high games of 259 and 245 to leap four spots into 18th place with 2604.

For the second consecutive day, Nataliya Shcherbinina, Ukraine, hit the cutoff number for 24th place with 2484 or an average of 207.

The women are done for today and will return Wednesday for the third six-game block. Squad B takes to the lanes at 8 a.m. Krasnoyarsk Time (CET -7 hours; EST -13 hours). Squad A will follow at noon.

The World Cup features a long qualifying format as all players bowl four six-game blocks over four days. The field is then cut to the top 24 men and top 24 women for eight additional games to determine the top eight for round-robin match play. After match play, the top three men and top three women advance to the stepladder finals.
