Canada's Caroline Lagrange stays atop the women's leaderboard as the field is cut to 8 | bowlingdigital.com

Caroline Lagrange of Canada (pictured left with Canadian head coach Tyrel Rose) averaged 231.63 in the Round of 24 and stayed atop the women's leaderboard in the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup as the field was cut to the top 8 for round robin match play.

With the 24-game qualifying pinfall carried over into Friday's eight-game round, 2009 World Cup champion Lagrange started with 190 and 199, her first games under 200 in the entire tournament, but rebounded with 274, 226, 213, 258, 268 and 225 for 1853 and 7809 overall, an average of 244.03 for 32 games.

Two-time World Cup champion Aumi Guerra (left), Dominican Republic, averaged 242.25 and chalked up 1938, one of three 1900 series today, to narrow the gap to 120 pins. The 2011 and 2011 winner, who had a high game of 290, remained in second place with 7689 (240.28).

Further 118 pins behind was Danielle McEwan (right), United States, who had eight games between 279 and 212 and a 1922 series to maintain third place with 7571 (236.59).

There is already a big gap between the top 3 and the rest of the field as fourth place Maria Lourdes Arles is trailing McEwan by 179 pins. The Filipino added 1829 to her qualifying score to leap one spot into fourth place with 7392 (231.99).

Cherie Tan (left) of Singapore slipped from fourth to fifth place with 7373 (230.41) behind a 1768 series. Roosa Lundén (right) of Finland used the field-best 1942, an average of 242.75, to move from eighth to sixth place with 7326 (228.94).

Roosa, daughter of former Finnish standout Reija Lundén, closed out her set with the 14th 300 game of this event and the third by a woman (Lagrange and Arles rolled the others).

Thashaina Seraus of Aruba fell one spot to seventh place with 7227 (225.84).

The 8th and final berth to advance to round robin match play went to Luminita Farkas Bucin of Romania, who totaled 7134, an average of 22.94. Ninth place Haruka Matsuda of Japan (7077) missed the cut by 57 pins after finishing with 279.

The top 8 women and the top 8 men will return Saturday at 9.00 a.m. Krasnoyarsk Time (CET -7 hours; EST -13 hours) for 8 games round robin match play. The men's and women's semifinals and finals are scheduled for 2 p.m. The Victory Banquet will conclude the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup at 8 p.m.

The World Cup features a long qualifying format as all players bowled four six-game blocks over four days. The field was then cut to the top 24 men and top 24 women for eight additional games to determine the top eight for round-robin match play. After eight games of match play, the top three men and top three women advance to the stepladder finals.
