ROCK 'n' ROLLS
Auction at Christie's exceeded all expectations

Elton John with several of the automobiles in the auction
Twenty Exceptional Motor Cars from the Collection of
Sir Elton John, have been auctioned at Christie's in London, UK, June 5th 2001.
The collection was compiled over the last thirty years and consisted mostly of
British manufactured cars. Superb examples of Aston Martin,
Bentley, Jaguar and Rolls-Royce, but also 3 Ferrari,
were offered to both fans of Sir Elton John and aficionados of
fine British and Italian automobiles alike. Throughout the auction, prices soared and the auction realized a total
of £1,951,725 or $2,749,981 (1£ ~ $1.409) .

Sir Elton John decided to sell the automobiles because he does not
get to drive them enough any more. "I'd rather they went to people who can
get pleasure out of them everyday", Elton said. Although he was in Atlanta
at the time of the auction, Sir Elton followed the progress of the sale and the final outcome
was quite surprising. "There's obviously a lot of money to be made from second-hand cars! It's great to know
that the people who have bought my cars place such a high value on them, and that the care that has been put
into looking after them over all the years has been well worth it. I hope that all of the new owners
enjoy these cars as much as I did."
